In 2023, Wu Xudong came to the Department of Orthopedic Oncology of Peking University People's Hospital, and Guo Wei, an expert in bone oncology, preliminarily judged that this was a highly malignant liposarcoma.
If the malignancy is not removed as soon as possible, it may metastasize. With the removal and the risk of amputation, Wu Xudong will no longer be able to live a normal life. What I thought was a muscle problem has evolved into a choice between life and leg.
In order to help Wu Xudong save his limbs, Professor Guo Wei boldly proposed a method of breaking bones and lifting legs, cutting off only one femur from above the knee, and then pulling out the tumor. Eventually, the 26-centimeter-long and 10-centimeter-wide, rugby-like liposarcoma was removed and the operation was successful.
Previously, Wu Xudong had posted on Weibo that he had loved sports since he was a child, and his life was very regular and healthy. He reminded everyone that they must have regular physical examinations, and if there is any abnormality in their body, don't carry it hard, and don't lie to themselves.
Wu Xudong, born in Sichuan on September 30, 1989, graduated from the Central Academy of Drama. What is liposarcoma?
Liposarcoma (LPS) is a soft tissue malignancy. Liposarcoma is more common in adults and can also be affected in adolescents and children, and it grows in a short period of time, is larger, and has a harder texture than lipomas, and is usually single. The cause of liposarcoma is not well understood.
Liposarcoma is generally painless and most commonly occurs in the lower extremities, retroperitoneum, perirenal area, mesenteric region, and shoulder. Tumors that occur in the abdominal cavity or in the body are difficult to detect early, and they are often seen only when they are significantly enlarged, and the masses are found after CT and other imaging examinations. Tumors that grow to a larger size may compress blood vessels, nerves, and nearby organs, causing symptoms.
For liposarcoma, surgical excision is the most effective treatment. Pathological classification was performed after surgery. Liposarcoma is prone to local recurrence after surgery, and some patients need to take other comprehensive adjuvant therapy after surgery according to the specific stage of the disease.
Lipomas and liposarcomas are two very different things. Lipomas are benign, while liposarcoma is a malignant tumor.
Doctor reminds that although lipomas are benign, they may also undergo malignant transformation in low probability. For example, it is too large or repeatedly stimulated. Therefore, even lipomas should be taken seriously and seek medical attention as soon as possible.
