How long has it been since you've seen a water cooler?
I don't think I saw it for at least five or six years: occasionally, either in a hospital or in a shopping mall. In short, they are all public places, and I have hardly seen them in anyone's home. Why did the once popular water dispenser fall to the point it is now? Come to think of it, it is probably inseparable from five factors.
#01. Inconvenient
The original intention of using a water dispenser is "convenient", but it just brings great inconvenience. Let's just talk about "changing the water": not to mention women, even men need to grit their teeth if they want to put the bucket on it.

But on the one hand, the bottom-mounted water purifier also needs to stuff bottled water into it, although it is more labor-saving than the top-mounted water, but it is still a bit troublesome. When did I start using a water dispenser? I guess I started by disassembling and cleaning a water dispenser myself.
Take the bucket down and it has a plastic base inside. When the base is lifted, you can see the slippery, black-smoked water storage box inside. For a moment, I couldn't even tell if I was brushing a water tank or a toilet tank.

If you remove the outlet and look inside the pipe, you can see a thick layer of scale attached to the inner wall of the pipe. It is said to be "limescale", but in fact, all kinds of dust have accumulated in it for a long time - the key point is that it cannot be cleaned here.

For Chinese, "can't boil" is a drinking taboo! Water will become cleaner after boiling, but unfortunately most water dispensers cannot make water boil. And the longer it is used, the lower the maximum temperature that can be heated.
Can the newly bought water dispenser be boiled?
It is not denied that some water dispensers can indeed boil, but only to 100°C - can meet the needs of hot water for instant noodles and other uses. But again, it's not enough to make water cleaner.
If you look at the electric kettle, it boils for a minute or two before stopping. The water dispenser just heats the water and then stops heating, and the boiling time is simply not enough.

This was the hottest topic in those years when water dispensers were popular: water dispensers were constantly heating the water in the tank. Repeated boiling will cause nitrite to be produced in the water, which can have health effects.
Thinking about it this way, is it a healthier practice for water dispensers not to boil water?
These doubts are put aside for now, but at least a thousand boiling water is definitely not good. Not to mention anything else, the taste of the water will be very poor: you can try it yourself, and after brewing the tea leaves with the water after repeated boiling, the color of the tea soup will become cloudy.
#05. Alternatives
If there were only tap water and kettles on open fires today, as they did back then, I am afraid that water dispensers would still not be eliminated. It's a pity that we have too many options now, and each one can be a perfect replacement for a water dispenser.

These new products not only do not have the problem of water dispensers, but perform better than water dispensers. And it's not too big to take up a lot of space like a water dispenser. The key price is not expensive, the lowest is only a few tens of yuan. Under the challenge of so many products, it is new that water dispensers are not eliminated.
