In 1903, Lin Baishui came to Shanghai at the invitation of Cai Yuanpei and co-founded the "Russian Police News", which was later renamed "Alarm Bell Daily". Immediately after that, he independently founded the "China Vernacular Newspaper", which was the first practice of the vernacular literary newspaper.
In 1904, when it was the 70th birthday of Empress Dowager Cixi, Lin Baishui published a couplet in the "Alarm Bell Daily", "Today's Lucky West Garden, tomorrow's Lucky Yihe, When The Day is Lucky Yuanmingyuan; 400 trillion bone marrow is all withered, and only one person is lucky." Fifty lost Ryukyu, sixty lost the Taiwan Strait, seventy lost the three eastern provinces, fifty thousand miles of territory, every long life will have no boundaries." This couplet suddenly spoke to the indignation of the Chinese people for decades. The country's finances do not spend for the sake of strengthening the country and enriching the people, but are invested in satisfying the pleasures of private birthday feasts, and many people can't help but clap their hands when they see this couplet.
Cixi was furious when she heard this, and had the intention to kill him, but she could not do anything about it. Why is that?
In fact, Lin Baishui was very clever at that time, and he made a big fuss in the Shanghai lease, and Cixi couldn't do anything with him, of course, the fundamental reason was that the power of the Manchurian aristocratic clique had begun to decline.
Later, he came to Beijing, without the shelter of the lease, and was completely exposed to the eyes of the Beiyang ruling authorities. Because he scolded Zhang Zongchang's aide Pan Fu in the newspaper, he offended this villain, plus Zhang Zongchang and Lin Baishui also had a long-standing grudge, and in the early years, Lin Baishui often scolded Zhang Zongchang in the newspaper, and one of Zhang Zongchang's most famous nicknames, "General Dog Meat", was from Lin Baishui's hand.
At 4 a.m., Lin Baishui, dressed in a white xiabu robe and 52 years old at the time, had gray hair and was detained by a team of gendarmes to the Execution Ground of The Tianqiao in the south of Beijing. After arriving at the execution site, Lin Baishui was surrounded by shouting soldiers and pushed onto a garbage heap, and before he could stand still, he heard a gunshot, and the bullet shot in from the back of his head and went straight to his left eye. After some hesitation, he finally fell to the ground, next to Chen Corpse.
Lin Baishui's real name is not Baishui, Baishui is his pen name. His original name was Lin Badger, also known as Wanli, the number of Xuanfan, retired scholar, "Badger" is a legendary unicorn that can distinguish straight, in ancient Chinese society is a symbol of the law of the divine beast.
