One day in February 1958, heavy snow fell in the Hokkaido region of Japan.

Liu Lianren could only hide in Tibet with the remaining two people, and only dared to go down the mountain to steal potatoes at night to satisfy his hunger.
It didn't take long for the two remaining companions to be arrested as well.
Less than two weeks after escaping the clutches, all four of his companions were captured.
Liu Lianren's heart was already numb, and he even had suicidal thoughts.
In the early morning of one day, Liu Lianren was crushed by the cruel reality.

After kneeling, Liu Lianren took off the straw rope around his waist and prepared to hang himself.
This is still the straw rope issued by the Japanese when it was working.

Sadly, at this time, someone was shouting their name in Chinese.
After hearing this, Liu Lianren felt that this must be a Japanese trick.
They are cunning and definitely trying to trick themselves out.
However, how did he know that these people who called him were his fellow victims.
Japan has surrendered, and everyone can go home!

It wasn't until February 8, 1958, that a local Japanese hunter prepared to go up the mountain to hunt.

He thought it was another Japanese soldier coming to capture him, not to mention that the hunter was still carrying a gun.
He ran desperately in front, and the hunter chased desperately behind.
But Liu Lianren, who lives in the cave all the year round, how could he outrun the strong hunter.
Soon, he was caught.
Liu Lianren was dressed in tattered clothes, which could only cover his body, and his hair was as long as a beard.
In desperation, the hunter had no choice but to call the police.
Later, after verification, it was discovered that he was a Chinese laborer who had worked in Japan.
However, Japan, which had already surrendered to China, denied this incident in order to cover up the crimes it had committed back then.
He was not even ashamed to say that Liu Lianren was a spy sent to Japan by China.
For more than ten years, Liu Lianren basically can't speak.
At the critical moment, he said his true identity word by word, which caused a huge repercussion in society.
This is the first time in 13 years that Liu Lianren has been in contact with the outside world.
It was also the first time that I learned that not long after he fled, the Japanese surrendered to China.

At the same time, he demanded that the Japanese government compensate him for his moral damage and help him return to his homeland.

With the concerted efforts of the whole world, the Japanese government was under pressure to let Liu Lianren return to the motherland.
After 13 years of wandering like a savage, he finally returned to his beloved homeland.
When he stepped on this land, Liu Lianren burst into tears.

He also formally filed a complaint against the Japanese government and held a press conference.
The Japanese government is required to publicly apologize to itself and give some financial compensation.
What people didn't expect was that in the face of Liu Lianren, a witness, the Japanese government still chose to open its eyes and tell nonsense.
It is even said that Japanese companies were very "friendly" to Chinese workers back then.
Not only do they have a holiday every week, but they also give out shoes, two boxes of cigarettes a week, and at least four dishes per meal.
Afterwards, he was not ashamed to ask: "Japanese companies treat you Chinese so kindly, why do you still come to lawsuit?"

In the face of such brazen Japanese, Liu Lianren was angry, but there was really no way to take them.
The persecuted laborers eventually appealed
Liu Lianren, who returned from Japan, was immediately diagnosed with stomach cancer, and his stomach was completely broken.
Liu Lianren, who couldn't hold on any longer, left in the early morning of September 2, 2000 with his eyes open.
Before he died, he told his son that his greatest wish was for the Japanese government to publicly apologize and compensate.
I hope my son can persevere and fight the lawsuit to the end.
Liu Lianren died
On 12 July 2001, the presiding magistrate of the Tokyo District Court, Kiyoichiro Nishioka, found the Government of Japan guilty.
He demanded that the Japanese government compensate Liu Lianren 20 million yen.
Therefore, Liu Lianren won the lawsuit in an all-round way, which also became the first case in which the Chinese claimed compensation against Japan since the victory of the Anti-Japanese War.
But unfortunately, only four years later, Liu Lianren's claim for compensation was overturned again.
The Tokyo District Court rejected the family's request and announced that it would not accept the case in the future.
Although it is not possible to prosecute the Japanese government, there have been follow-up developments in the case.
In 2016, Japan's Mitsubishi decided to apologize and compensate Chinese laborers who were injured during World War II, with 100,000 yuan per person.
However, Mitsubishi's apology does not represent the Japanese government.
This kind of refusal to apologize for making mistakes will always be spurned by the world.
Liu Lianren returned to China
In fact, Liu Lianren is both unfortunate and lucky.
In the face of his suffering, we are sympathetic, but more angry at the Japanese army for never admitting the crimes they have committed.
We will not forget this history, and as a Chinese, we must not forget either.
The Japanese government can deny it outright, but history will not be forgotten.
History is traceable, and the public's eyes are clear.
If they do so, they will be rewarded twice as much.
