These bamboo shoot products are produced by an enterprise specializing in the production and operation of boiled bamboo shoots, quick-frozen bamboo shoots, vacuum packaging and other deep-processed products in Shaxian District, Sanming City, Fujian Province. Zhao Yiping, general manager of the company, recently told a reporter from China News Service that the company has more than 40 kinds of bamboo shoot products, with an export rate of more than 96%, accounting for 26% of the Japanese bamboo shoot market. "Chilled bamboo shoots are popular in the Japanese market for their high appearance and high nutrition, and their prices in Japan are also relatively high."

Zhao Yiping, who has been engaged in the bamboo shoot industry for more than 20 years, said that Sanming is the hometown of bamboo shoots and bamboo, and the bamboo resources are abundant; Locally grown bamboo shoots are not only of high quality, but also relatively cheap to purchase.

In the first four months of this year, the output increased by 35% year-on-year, and the output value reached 58 million yuan (RMB, the same below), becoming a major foreign exchange earner in the processing and export of China's boiled bamboo shoot industry.

Zhao Yiping told reporters that the company has established order cooperation with more than 40 small and medium-sized bamboo shoot processing enterprises in accordance with the industrialized business model of "market + company + base + bamboo farmers", leading thousands of bamboo farmers to enter the market.

The herbs under the forest help Shaxian snacks out of the mountains

As the manager of Shaxian Jiayuan Camellia oleifera Professional Cooperative, Cao Yangqu saw the increasing demand for stew cans from Shaxian snack customers, and began to plant more than 100 acres of milk roots under his own Camellia oleifera forest last year, with a current income of more than 400,000 yuan.

There are more than 240 varieties of Shaxian snacks, among which the herbal stew pot and steamed dumplings, mixed noodles and flat meat are called the "four King Kongs" of Shaxian snacks, and Chinese herbs such as milk root, panshan dragon, yellow flower poured water lotus, and yellow essence are indispensable raw materials for the stew pot.

In Cao Yangqu's view, the intercropping mode of his own Camellia oleifera forest can effectively save planting costs, improve the soil, help the growth of trees, reduce cultivation costs, and promote ecological and economic benefits to achieve a win-win situation.

According to Le Daiming, deputy director of the Shaxian District Forestry Bureau, the planting scale of the forest in Shaxian County is about 30,000 mu, and the main crops are milk roots, yellow essence, panshan dragon, dendrobium, seven leaves and one branch flower, etc., most of which are used as raw materials for snacks in Shaxian County, with an output value of about 500 million yuan.

In recent years, Sanming has focused on forest medicine, forest fungi and Shaxian snack ingredients to develop the understory economy, forming demonstration bases such as Qingliu Gangmei, Yongan Golden Clematis, Taining Dendrobium officinalis, Youxi Poria cocos, etc., driving nearly 280,000 farmers to participate in the operation, and achieving an economic output value of 17.9 billion yuan in 2023.

Oriental beauty tea becomes the "golden leaf" in the mountains

In Datian County, Sanming City, the territory is full of peaks and mountains, clouds and mist, and gurgling springs. Beauty tea is mainly produced here on the Daxian Peak at an altitude of more than 1,500 meters.

Daejeon Beauty Tea originated from Taiwan and is in the same vein as Taiwan's Oriental Beauty Tea. "In the early years, after my father visited many places in the mainland, he was finally attracted by the unique natural conditions and investment promotion policies here." "Post-90s" Taiqing Peng Anyuan planted more than 600 acres of tea in the field.

In 1999, Peng Anyuan's father, Peng Baofa, came to Daejeon to invest and set up a factory, introducing excellent Taiwanese tea varieties such as soft branch oolong and Jin Xuan and Taiwan's Oriental Beauty tea making technology, and founded the first Taiwan-funded tea enterprise in Daejeon. Since then, Taiwan's Oriental Beauty Tea has taken root in Daejeon.

Driven by Taiwanese businessmen, local tea farmers have joined in and continue to carry forward the beauty tea making process. In just a few years, Daejeon has become the largest production base of beauty tea in mainland China, and has won the titles of "Hometown of Chinese High Mountain Tea" and "Hometown of Chinese Beauty Tea"; A small piece of beauty tea has become a "golden leaf" for local people to get rich.

At present, Datian County has 99,500 acres of tea plantations, and the output value of the whole industrial chain is 4 billion yuan. Of the county's 296,000 permanent residents, about 100,000 are engaged in tea industry-related work, contributing more than 70% of the country's beauty tea production. Sanming has also become an emerging tea production base in Fujian, and a number of "tea courtyards" are helping the revitalization of rural industries. (ENDS)
