On December 13, the rangers of Xinhua Longwan National Wetland Park in Loudi, Hunan Province carried out a patrol activity, encountered an unforgettable "encounter", and witnessed the fluttering style of the Oriental White Stork, a national first-class key protected wild animal of "Bird China Treasure".

The wetland park in winter is full of water, the river surface is misty and sparkling, and since the beginning of winter, groups of migratory birds have come here to rest and replenish their supplies. The patrol boat glides over the clear water, the shadows of the trees on both sides of the bank are colorful, which makes people feel refreshed, and from time to time there are all kinds of water birds into the eye, egrets, herons, pelicans, mandarin ducks...... Light up people's eyes.

In the waters of Panyang Village, Langtang Town, Zishui, two never-before-seen big birds stand elegantly in the water shallows, the feathers on the front of the big bird's body are pure white, the feathers and flight feathers are black, exuding a greenish-purple luster, the long and thick black beak is very eye-catching, the bright red long legs, the jade shallows, the body is beautiful. The staff of Longwan National Wetland Park confirmed on the spot that these two "distinguished guests" turned out to be the Oriental White Stork, a national first-class key protected wild animal.

It is understood that since November this year, the Oriental White Stork has appeared many times in Hetian Village, Ronghua Township, Panyang Village, Langtang Town, and Wanping Village, where the wetland park is located, with a maximum of 5 birds. The Oriental White Stork is a large wading bird belonging to the stork family, known as the "bird giant panda", and is the "bird treasure of China". They can reach a body length of up to 1.2 meters, a wingspan of up to 2.1 meters, and a weight of up to 3.9 kilograms. It mainly inhabits wetland environments such as rivers, lakes, and swamps, and feeds on small fish, frogs, and insects.

At present, the wild population of the Oriental White Stork is only 7,000 to 9,000 individuals, and it is classified as endangered (EN) in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, and in 1989 the mainland included it in China's list of first-class key protected wild animals.
