A face tanned by the sun, hair disheveled by the sea breeze, a simple and simple cotton jacket... Gong Zhe, who appeared in the movie "Island Guardian", is completely like a woman who has lived on an island for decades, and it is difficult to see the shadow of urban life in her. In this work, she seems to be fully integrated into the character Wang Shihua, a strong woman who chose to accompany her husband to the island as her home and stayed on the island for 32 years.

On September 19, the first Golden Panda Awards selection activity opened in Chengdu, with four major awards: film, TV series, documentary and cartoon. The final list of winners will be announced at the Golden Panda Festival held on the evening of the 20th. In the previously announced film unit, actor Gong Zhe was shortlisted for the "Best Actress Award" with his work "Island Guardian". Based on the true deeds of "model of the times" Wang Jicai and Wang Shihua and his wife guarding the island for 32 years, the movie "Island Guardian" has won praise from many audiences after its release with its real and touching story prototype and solid and delicate script. In the shot, the actor's excellent acting skills provide a strong guarantee for the work, and Gong Zhe, as the heroine, is even more because of the role of Wang Shihua, allowing the audience to see her infinite possibilities.

quit her job as a teacher, entrusted her daughter to her mother-in-law, and was in the same boat with her husband Wang Jicai on Kaishan Island... Wang Shihua, who appeared in the movie, quit her job as a teacher in order to accompany her husband Wang Jicai, who guarded the island, and chose to accompany her husband to take the island as her home. In the past 32 years, she and her husband have patrolled the island three times a day on Kaishan Island, which has no residents, no fresh water, no electricity, harsh environment and changeable climate, observing celestial phenomena, escorting beacons, and writing diaries... And the life bits and pieces shown by these shots are actually from the real character stories of Wang Shihua and Wang Jicai.

Gong Zhe recalled that when he received the script of "Island Guardian", the first thing he felt was honor. "Teacher Wang Shihua is a very remarkable contemporary woman. As an actor, you can play such a character, whether from the spiritual or spiritual level, you can harvest growth in the role. At the same time, in order to better understand the characters, Gong Zheya and the film's creative team went to Kaishan Island many times to interview and experience life, and communicated with Wang Shihua himself to understand the life feelings and mental journey of the people on the island in the subtleties.

"Director Chen Li took us to Kaishan Island to experience life at the first time. When we actually stepped on the land of Kaishan Island and ate with Teacher Wang Shihua, she also pointed out to me that she and her husband planted neem trees with their own hands. When they heard on the radio that Beijing's bid was successful, they rushed outside the house with great excitement and carved the success of the bid on the neem tree. And these stories and experiences have given Gong Zhe infinite strength in the process of starring.

It is worth mentioning that the location shooting of "Island Guardian" lasted 4 months, and more than 90% of the shots in the film were real shots. During the filming process, the main creative team carried dozens of pounds of equipment through the dangerous shoals and reefs every day, and at the same time had to deal with the climatic conditions that may change at any time at sea. In the interview, Gong Zhe also said that shooting in more extreme weather conditions at that time was also a physical challenge for actors, but when he was fully immersed in the role, he did not feel difficult. "But looking back, the strong winds and waves at that time were indeed very energy-consuming."

Now, with his outstanding performance in "Island Guardian", Gong Zhe has been nominated for the "Best Actress Award" in the film section of the first Golden Panda Awards selection event. In her opinion, this is an encouragement and affirmation. She also hopes that through the first Golden Panda Award selection activities, Chinese films will have more connections with the world. "China has such a long history and culture, and there are many Chinese stories with depth and thickness, and as a filmmaker, I hope to continue to work hard in this regard."
