Three years ago, director Chen Li was tasked with filming "The Island Keeper", and she approached Gong Zhe, hoping that she could play Wang Shihua, one of the prototypes of the film.
Wang Shihua is Wang Jicai's lover, she was originally a primary school teacher, after Wang Jicai went to the island a month later, resigned from the teacher's job, entrusted her young daughter to her in-laws, and her husband Wang Jicai has since taken root on the inaccessible Kaishan Island, which has been rooted for 32 years.
Gong Zhe's life trajectory is very different from Wang Shihua's, when she was selected by director Ma Liwen from the Central Academy of Fine Arts to embark on the road of acting, and the first film "The Two of Us" starred in shined at the Tokyo International Film Festival, and was nominated for the Golden Rooster Award for Best Supporting Actress in the same year, with a very high starting point.

In the movie, before a typhoon came, the scene of rescuing the vegetable garden made Gong Zhe have a personal experience, "When the sea breeze came, it was too terrible, there was a scene of rescuing vegetable seedlings in the rainstorm, I myself was wet, and I was frozen and shivering." But I was already in that situation, and when I went to rescue the dishes, I was really a bit desperate. Gong Zhe sighed.
In the contact with Wang Shihua, Gong Zhe experienced tremors in his heart again and again, their love, their strength, their perseverance and belief, so that Gong Zhe gradually understood the meaning of these 32 years. What touched her most was that even after experiencing the unbearable difficulties of ordinary people, Wang Jicai and His wife still smiled and faced life, and personally turned the island with an extremely difficult environment into a warm home.
02 Wang Shihua, really remarkable
With the deepening of the shooting, Gong Zhe had a deeper understanding of the sentence "He guards the island, I guard him" in Wang Shihua's mouth.
In reality, Wang Shihua originally did not have to go to the island, at that time, in the school where she worked, there was still a promotion opportunity waiting for her, if she went to the island, she not only had to give up her job as a teacher, but also meant to be separated from her younger daughter for a long time, "that is to cut the flesh on her heart", Gong Zhe guessed the character, how can not figure out, why Wang Shihua still chose to go to the island, "In addition to work, Wang Shihua also has parents, she is not only a wife, but also a mother, a child." If you go to the island, these will have to be cut off. ”
Gong Zhe asked Wang Shihua why he had to go to the island? A sentence from Wang Shihua's son, Wang Zhiguo, unraveled Gong Zhe's doubts, "My mother just loves my father too much." Behind the simple words, Wang Shihua's love for Wang Jicai is so thick that it cannot be dissolved.

"This drama actually echoes the scene of a person's pain on the night Wang Shihua made a decision in life." Gong Zhe said that at that moment in the movie, a thousand words turned into tears and melted with the storm, and it was at that moment that she made a decision.
03 Raising the national flag with Liu Ye is the most memorable
In Gong Zhe's view, in the 32 years of guarding the island, the relationship between Wang Shihua and Wang Jicai has long been not simply summed up by love, "there is love, there is family affection, and there is a comradeship between them."
Gong Zhe remembered that Wang Shihua said to Wang Jicai, "You guard the island, I guard you", Gong Zhe went to check the map, Kaishan Island is not big, only the size of two football fields, but the geographical location is very special, it is a fortress, it is a national defense strategic island. In 1939, the Japanese army captured the south bank of the Guanhe River, which was used as a springboard, and the geographical location was very important for coastal defense. "So the two of them are guarding here, not only guarding the family and guarding the island, but actually guarding the country." They are husband and wife, relatives and comrades-in-arms. Gong Zhe said.
In the movie, Gong Zhe's most memorable scene is the scene of raising the national flag with Liu Ye, who plays Wang Jicai. In reality, wang jicai and Wang Shihua have never interrupted a day in 32 years since they raised the first five-star red flag on Kaishan Island in 1986, and in 2018, Wang Jicai died of illness, and the heavy responsibility of raising the national flag was passed to the shoulders of the new island keepers. Wang Shihua told Gong Zhe that during the 32 years of guarding the island, every day she and Lao Wang spent on the island began with a flag-raising ceremony, and in 32 years, they raised more than 200 national flags.
In the movie, Gong Zhe and Liu Ye also followed the example of Wang Shihua and Wang Jicai and raised the national flag on the island. After filming "The Island Keeper", Gong Zhe also experienced a spiritual journey.
