Mozi's disciple Yizi asked Xu Pi to take him to meet Mencius.

Mencius said, "I originally wanted to see him, but I was sick and could not see him, and when I got better, I went to see him again, and asked Yizi not to come."

A few days later, Yizi wanted to see Mencius again.

Mencius said: "I can meet him, let me say bluntly, I heard that Yizi is Mozi's disciple, the Mo family advocates thrift in handling funerals, Yizi wants to use book burials to change the bad habits of the world, naturally he believes that thick burials are not desirable, but he buries his parents is quite luxurious, isn't this taking funerals that he despises and disapproves of to deal with his parents' funerals?"

Xu Pi relayed what Mencius had said to Yizi.

Yizi said: "Confucianism said that ancient emperors treated their people the same as their parents loved their children. I personally believe that there is no difference in so-called love, so making this kind of love should start with parents. ”

Xu Pi relayed Yizi's words to Mencius.

Mencius said, "Does Yizi really think that a nephew who loves him is the same as a child who loves his neighbor?" For example, a child crawling on the ground is about to fall into a well, and whoever sees it here will come to the rescue. Eko believes that love is indiscriminate, but in fact it is just compassion. Besides, there is only one origin for everything in the world, and for man there is only parents. Yizi, on the other hand, believes that there are two origins, and there is no difference between his own parents and other people's parents. In ancient times, there were people whose parents died and did not go to bury them, throwing their bodies into a ravine, and later seeing animals eating their parents' corpses, mosquitoes also sucking them, sad to look at this tragic scene, the sweat on the man's head could not help but flow out, of course, this sweat is not for people to see, but from the heart ashamed! He might go home to get a shovel and bury his parents' bodies carefully. It is certainly right to bury the bodies of their parents, and it naturally makes sense for future generations to bury their parents. ”

Xu Pi relayed what Mencius had said to Yizi.

Eko looked frustrated, thought for a while, and said, "I see."

The "simultaneous love" and "book burial" proposed by Mojia can be said to be relatively progressive, but in practice they expose contradictory results. First, there is no difference in the love of all of them, and parents who love their own parents and those who love others are so-called simultaneous love; Second, funeral affairs advocate a book burial, but a thick burial for the death of one's parents, which shows the difference between love, not love. Mencius grasped the contradiction of this logic in order to refute what Mozi's disciple Yizi said. Expose Mozi's "simultaneous love" and "book burial" difficult to practice and ills.
