Yunnan Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve has a total area of 67,700 hectares, a forest coverage rate of 85.1%, and an average altitude of more than 2,000 meters, of which 14,275 hectares are in Xinping County. At the same time, a temporary bird protection patrol team was set up, daily patrols were strengthened, and activities such as science popularization and education were carried out to establish a safety barrier for migratory bird migration.

It is understood that bird rings are a simple, effective and widely used method used in the world to study the law of bird migration, and are an important part of the construction of national ecological civilization. Through the recycling of ringbirds, it provides ecological data for the study of bird migration rules, migration time and route, population number, etc., provides scientific basis for the protection of endangered rare birds, formulates bird protection laws, rationally utilizes bird resources, etc., and builds a safety barrier for migratory birds to protect the safety of migratory birds.
From 2004 to 2020, the XinpingGuan Conservation Bureau of Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve in Yunnan Province had a total of 51,854 birds migrating at night, involving 236 species of 15 orders and 32 families, a total of 12 species of 8 species were recovered, and 272 were recaptured, of which 24 were nationally protected birds.
The Western Black-crowned Gibbon is a National Grade I key protected animal, and the Xinping section of the Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve in Yunnan is distributed with more than 40% of the world's population and a population of about 124 groups of more than 500 Western Black-crowned Gibbons.

In order to continue to consolidate the protection and monitoring of the West Black-crowned Gibbon, in recent years, the Xinping Management and Conservation Bureau of the Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve in Yunnan Province has established the West Black-crowned Gibbon Ecological Behavior Research Station, which has carried out a large number of studies on its basic ecology, social behavior and habitat. The bureau also signed technical cooperation contracts with Yunnan University and other colleges and universities, held two monitoring trainings since 2018, established 10 bird and animal monitoring samples, and arranged 3 special monitoring in the tea horse ancient road and Mao'er Mountain area, and continued to carry out ecological behavior research and monitoring of the western black-crowned gibbon to ensure the safety and stability of the western black-crowned gibbon population.
"I began observing western black-crowned gibbons in 2010, and every day I found them through the sound localization of the west black-crowned gibbons' chirping and began to observe and record their behavior habits."
Li Linguo, a steward responsible for monitoring the Western Black-crowned Gibbon, told reporters that the original more than 20 days a month into the mountain can only see the Western Black-crowned Gibbon once or twice, through the protection of these years, now the time to observe the Western Black-crowned Gibbon every month has increased to more than 10 days.
In recent years, the Xinping Management and Conservation Bureau of Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve in Yunnan has actively carried out daily patrols, strengthened scientific research and monitoring, and paid attention to science popularization and education and community co-construction and co-management, and the biodiversity conservation of the reserve has achieved remarkable results.

It is understood that there are 446 species of ferns in 48 families and 118 genera in the Ailao Mountain area, 20 species in 12 genera in 7 families of gymnosperms, and 2227 species in 943 genera in 193 families of angiosperms. There are 13 species of plants under national level I and II key protection, including Yunnan Bole tree, yew tree, and water green tree. There are 86 species of mammals in 27 families and 63 genera, 39 species in 16 genera and 8 families of amphibians and reptiles, 430 species in 19 orders and 52 families of birds, and more than 300 species of insects. There are 20 species of national I. and II. key protected mammals, such as the western black-crowned gibbon and the gray langur; 33 species of birds, such as the black-necked long-tailed pheasant and the white egret; and 4 species of amphibian reptiles, such as the round-nosed monitor lizard and the red wart salamander.
