As one of the traditional cultures of the Chinese nation for 5,000 years, calligraphy art, everyone is discussing how to inherit and innovate calligraphy, what aspects of the function of Chinese calligraphy are embodied in, and what should calligraphers study? What to write? I think mr. Li Honghai has his own ideas and insights through these years of research and practice. Recently, I walked into Li Honghai's studio with media friends such as Charity Window Network, China Artists Network, China Calligraphy and Painting Alliance, and selected works of Famous Chinese Calligraphers and Painters, and asked Mr. Li Honghai to talk about the function of Chinese calligraphy and how calligraphy is innovative.

Calligraphy is the national essence of China. Chinese culture has lasted for 5,000 years to the present, and the art of calligraphy, which carries Chinese culture, occupies an important position in the minds of Chinese people. However, with the development of modern science and technology, people's writing tools have gradually changed from brushes to current pens, ballpoint pens, computers and mobile phones, and calligraphy has become an art of appreciation.
Regarding the function of calligraphy, experts and scholars have long discussed it. The knowledge of Xiang Mu, a famous scholar of the Ming Dynasty, has a high status and authority in the field of calligraphy, he said: "Calligraphy is popular with heaven and earth, guarding our politics and religion, and safeguarding our politics and political power." "Why does calligraphy have such a high status? I think there are four main aspects.
First, the political function. There are fifty-six nationalities and dozens of languages in our country, and because of the unified Chinese characters and standard Chinese, there is a newspaper and a radio station in the national territory. Political and ideological unification of a country is the top priority, and it can be said that where there is Chinese, there are Chinese characters. To maintain political unity, unity in government decrees, and unity in ideology, calligraphy and Chinese characters are indispensable.
Second, the inheritance function. Ancient emperors issued orders and issued government decrees by relying on writing, that is, calligraphy. The Confucian classics are passed on by calligraphy, including after the introduction of Buddhism to China, and the vast majority of scriptures also rely on writing and calligraphy to carry forward the past and the future. At the same time, the poetry and song in the history of our country were written and preserved in the form of calligraphy before there was no printing. Also, the various inscriptions, Jian Mu, folk couplets, plaques, etc. that we see now, if there is no inheritance of calligraphy, what will Chinese culture look like? It's unimaginable. Since the invention of Writing in China, whether it is oracle bone or seal book, etc., it has continued until now, without breaking the file, which has China's five thousand years of history and cultural heritage, and there is only one family in the world, which plays a major role in the function of calligraphy.
Third, the educational function. The educational function of calligraphy is also obvious, such as "serving the people" written by Chairman Mao Zedong of Xinhuamen on Chang'an Avenue, where thousands of people pass by every day and know at a glance that it is the ruling concept of the Chinese Communist Party, which embodies the educational function of calligraphy. There are also some plaques and couplets on tourist attractions, including the loyalty and filial piety carved on the famous mountain, and the couplets posted on the doors of thousands of households, which not only reflect the art of calligraphy, but also have an educational function.
Fourth, appreciate the function. The development of calligraphy to the present, due to the dedicated creation of many artists in the past dynasties, the formation of five kinds of calligraphy, which is through the joint efforts of successive generations of calligraphers and painters, so that the art of calligraphy can be inherited and evolved with the development of social economy, from simple words to a calligraphy art that can be touched and appreciated. Sometimes, when we go to the Forbidden City and some tourist attractions, we see good calligraphy works, photograph them, savor and appreciate them carefully, not only to see the content, but also to appreciate the art of calligraphy to meet the aesthetic needs of the heart.

Recently, when President Xi Jinping inspected Yulin, Shaanxi Province, he specially went to the school to see the students' calligraphy class and communicate and write with the students. "Write Chinese characters well from an early age, and do a good job of Chinese" has become a loud slogan for learning calligraphy.
