What is Serbia's choice?

The war in Kosovo is rekindled!

Since May 25, the conflict between the Kosovo authorities and the Serbs in the north has suddenly intensified, the President of Serbia has declared a state of supreme emergency, and the army has marched in the direction of Kosovo, and is now stationed in the "border area" near Kosovo, ready to enter Kosovo at any time.

Kosovo NATO Force

At the same time, NATO "peacekeeping forces" have been stationed in Kosovo Serb cities and clashes with local Serbs, injuring more than 20 NATO troops and more than 50 Serbs, for which NATO announced an additional 700 troops in Kosovo.

The reasons for the conflict were clear, as attempts by the Kosovo authorities to forcibly deploy their appointed Albanian officials to four predominantly Serb municipalities in the north were opposed by local Serbs. Serbs surrounded municipal buildings in sit-ins and barred Albanian officials from entering. The Serbian authorities then said they would protect the Serbs in Kosovo, and the army then arrived at the border area of Kosovo, but due to the presence of NATO troops, the Serbian army could not enter Kosovo directly.

Vučić announced the march to Kosovo

The current situation is that NATO does not want the situation in Kosovo to deteriorate, especially Serbia does not want a direct conflict with Kosovo, because NATO is doing its best to support Ukraine to contain Russia, so it does not want a new conflict to break out in the rear. NATO had previously approached the Kosovo leadership for the withdrawal of the Kosovo authorities from the north, but the Kosovo leadership did not accept it. Now in the face of Serbian troops, Kosovo also does not want to really go to war, so the development of the situation is most likely that the Serb areas in northern Kosovo will be taken over by NATO "peacekeeping forces", and NATO, as a "mediator", asks Serbia and Kosovo to make concessions together and return to the situation where the conflict broke out.

Of course, Serbia also knows that this is not NATO's "equal" coordination of bilateral relations, but is just delaying time, on the one hand, waiting for Russia to collapse in the "Russian-Ukrainian conflict", and on the other hand, making Kosovo's "independence" more practical. But in the face of a strong NATO, Serbia also has no more means to deal with it, so the time to test Serbia's wisdom has come, whether to compromise and retreat, or to harden to the end, or take advantage of the situation, it depends on Serbia's choice.

As for Kosovo, although it has a slight strength, once it loses the support of NATO, it may collapse at any time.
