The former Warsaw Pact, founded in 1955, has eight member states: the Soviet Union, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Albania.

Among them, Albania withdrew from the Warsaw Pact at the end of the sixties, leaving seven countries, except for the Soviet Union, the rest of the countries (East Germany merged into West Germany, Czechoslovakia separated) joined NATO without hesitation.
