According to CNET, Brian Brown, an entomologist at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, has discovered a new fly species in Brazil. "As soon as I saw those bulging legs, I knew I had to name them After Arnold," he said. He was referring to arnold Schwarzenegger, a bodybuilder, an action star and former governor of California.
Schwarzenegger himself confirmed the naming on Twitter, writing: "Thank you Dr. Brown for the great honor. Now I'm committed to making sure our thighs are as strong as flies! ”
While Schwarzenegger is known for its muscular body, now the insect, called "Megapropodiphora arnoldi," may actually be the smallest fly in the world. Brown published a research article this week in the Journal of Biodiversity Data in which he described a female fly with a length of just 0.395 mm.
Despite its small size, megapropodiphora arnoldi's fore legs are very strong, and the other parts and wings are very small.
There's another personal reason brown named the fly after Schwarzenegger, saying, "His autobiography gave me some hope that I, who was a skinny teenager at the time, would also be able to improve my figure through fitness." ”
