In the orchard, clusters of yellow and heavy loquats are surrounded by layers of green leaves, delicately hanging all over the branches, tourists walk through it, holding "golden fruits", chewing in their mouths to taste soft and sweet and sour, talking and laughing, and enjoying the fun brought by picking and playing.
"If the loquat is well managed, the price will sell well. Tourists from the city came to us to play, and everyone was very happy while picking and eating. If the quality is good, it can be sold for 15 yuan a pound, and the most skimmed one will also be sold for 8 yuan a pound. On average, 1,000 jin per mu, my family's 8 acres of loquat land are estimated to be sold for nearly 100,000 yuan this year. Tu Tianming, a major planter in Group 6 of the Land Village, weighed and counted the accounts for tourists in his orchard, while calculating this year's harvest, and his face blossomed.
Loquats are popular not only in the orchard, but also in the stalls along the way. "These loquats were only picked from the tree this morning, the fruit is large and sweet, more than 10 yuan a pound, and there are many tourists who come to buy it, and a whole back of loquats will be sold out in a while." He Zongqun, a fruit farmer in Land Village, said.
Located in the lower reaches of the Tuo River, Biwa Town has beautiful mountains and waters, and the rainfall is abundant. The town is centered on the land village, since the 90s of the last century began to develop the loquat industry, fruit farmers with the support of the agricultural department, introduced Longquanyi "big five-star" loquat for improvement, the implementation of variety cross-grafting, the formation of a unique taste, very popular with consumers.
The good economic benefits make the villagers full of energy. "We have planted 1,300 acres of loquats in our village, and now all of them are bearing fruit." Zhang Changmin, secretary of the general party branch of the land village, said that although the harvest has dropped a little bit this year, the price is very good, and there are more than 100 households with an income of more than 10,000 yuan.
In order to ensure rapid sales, Biwa Town actively guided, planned from various sides, and adopted various methods such as online sales, merchant procurement, tourist picking, and villagers' self-selling. Today, loquat has become an important way for local people to increase their income.
