On January 9, 2003, Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine admitted the first case of SARS in Guangzhou. Lin Lin, then director of the respiratory department of the hospital, became one of the first doctors to come into contact with SARS patients. After half a year of fighting, she and the hospital team defeated SARS, and the combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment plan was widely affirmed by the World Health Organization and the medical community.

In May of the same year, at the invitation of the Hong Kong Hospital Authority, Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine sent Lin Lin and Yang Zhimin, two "female generals" of Traditional Chinese medicine against Africa, to Hong Kong to carry out cooperative clinical research on traditional Chinese and Western medicine as honorary consultants of the Hong Kong Hospital Authority to help fight SARS.
