Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death in women worldwide. Understanding the mechanisms that lead to tumor progression and identifying unique markers of tumorigenesis is of great significance for the prevention of this malignant disease.
On September 2, 2020, the Dunning team of Jinan University published a research paper entitled "CRISPR/Cas9-Mediated OC-2 Editing Inhibits the Tumor Growth and Angiogenesis of Ovarian Cancer" online at Frontiers in Oncology (IF=4.85). The study reveals a key regulator of apoptosis and angiogenesis networks in ovarian cancer, applying the CRISPR/Cas9 system to the transcription factor pathway to develop anti-tumor gene therapies with broad roles.
However, on May 10, 2021, the article was retracted, mainly due to data manipulation in the article.
The journal retracted the article for the following reasons:
After the release, concerns were raised about data manipulation in Figures 5 and 7. The survey was conducted according to Frontiers' guidelines, but the authors failed to provide a satisfactory explanation.
