On March 24, local time, the Lower Kaifu Gap Hydropower Station in Zambia, built by a Chinese enterprise, held a grid-connected power generation ceremony for Unit 5. Zambian President Hichilema attended the ceremony and cut the ribbon for the unveiling of the event, and pressed the start button at the site, marking that all the generator sets of the Lower Kaifu Gap Hydropower Station were put into operation.
On the same day, Hichilema said in an interview with a reporter from the main station that the establishment and operation of the Lower Kaifu Gorge Hydropower Station will be conducive to promoting Zambia's economic development.
It is understood that the Lower Kaifu Gap Hydropower Station is located on the Kafue River, about 90 kilometers south of Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, and the hydropower station is equipped with 5 francis generator sets with a total installed capacity of 750 MW. Up to now, all five units have been connected to the grid for power generation, which can increase Zambia's power supply capacity by 38%. As a model project of the "Belt and Road", the Lower Kaifu Gap Hydropower Station has greatly alleviated the situation of power shortage in Zambia, not only providing a solid guarantee for the power supply of Zambia and even southern African countries, but also promoting Zambia's local economic development and improvement of people's livelihood.
In an interview with a reporter from the main station, Klaudas, a local Zambian resident, said that before the Lower Kaifu Gorge Hydropower Station was put into use, there were often power outages in the local area, and he and his family had suffered from power shortages. But now it's different, since the Lower Kaifu Gorge Hydropower Station was put into use, there have been almost no power outages. Claudas is grateful for the sufficient power supply provided by the Lower Cliff Gap Hydropower Station, which has greatly improved the lives of his family and the people of various communities.
