The Han Dynasty was divided into the Western Han Dynasty and the Eastern Han Dynasty. The Western Han Dynasty, which lasted for more than 200 years, was overthrown by Wang Mang. The new dynasty established by Wang Mang lasted 15 years. The Han Dynasty ruled by Liu ushered in the first generation in history in these hundreds of years, and the Liu family also became a large and prosperous imperial family. Due to the Han Dynasty's divided fiefdom system and long reign, it was the most prolific royal family in history.
Liu Bang had eight sons. From the lessons of the fall of the Qin king, he adopted a system of divided seals, and let his sons become kings everywhere. After the princes were divided, the branches and leaves continued to scatter. Except for Liu Jian, who was persecuted and destroyed by Empress Lü, the rest of the princes and kings had a group of descendants, and the number increased exponentially. During the more than 400 years of the Han Dynasty, the Liu royal family passed down 18 generations. Later, due to the maintenance of so many royals and nobles in the imperial court, the financial burden was too heavy, and starting with Liu Che, the rank of canonized officials was reduced one by one. From kings to princes, in just a few generations, they became ordinary people living in this world.
After Wang Mang rebelled and seized power in the Han Dynasty, most of the troops rebelling against the new dynasty supported Liu, and many of Liu's descendants also responded to the desire to regain power. Among them, Liu Xiu, a descendant of Emperor Jing of Han, became a commoner and rebelled to overthrow the new dynasty and establish the Eastern Han dynasty. State power returned to relatives of the Liu family. Although the Liu royal family suffered heavy casualties in the war, it is speculated that by the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Liu Bang had at least hundreds of thousands of descendants.
Is Liu Bei a descendant of Liu Bang? Liu Bei and Liu Bang have very similar experiences. They all led uprisings and rebellions. According to historical records, Liu Bei was the queen of King Jing of Zhongshan. So who is King Jing of Zhongshan? It is known that Liu Qi was Liu Heng's fifth son, and Liu Qi had a total of fourteen sons, the seventh of which was Liu Sheng, who was posthumously known as the King of Zhongshan Jing. It can be seen that King Zhongshan is Liu Bang's great-grandson. Liu Bei is a descendant of Liu Sheng and a descendant of Liu Bang.
Liu Bang's descendants, from the first clan to various fiefs across the country, to princes, to official positions, within three or four generations, have already become commoners. This was the case when Liu Bei appeared on the stage of history. He lived in poverty with his mother, who made straw shoes and mats for a living. Later, he went out with Lu Zhi to study. Later, Liu Bei suppressed the Yellow Turban Rebellion and made a county order. In his early years, he was in displacement. Later, his power gradually grew, capturing Jingzhou and Yizhou, and establishing the Shu Han. Liu Bei died in 223 AD at the age of 63.
However, there is also another view that after Liu Bei claimed Zhong Shanshan Mountain, he just laid a family foundation for his political ideals, gained a proper name, and expanded his authority in the social context of the initial emphasis on the family. In addition, Liu Sheng's descendants are staggeringly numerous, with more than 100 sons, widely distributed and difficult to verify. But in general, descendants basically agree that Liu Bei is a descendant of Liu Bang.
