In October 1950, the Chinese Volunteer Army crossed the Yalu River, and 24-year-old Wang Hai and his comrades flew fighters into battle to compete with the U.S. Air Force, which was then known as the "world ace".
On November 18, 1951, on the Korean battlefield, Wang Hai, then the commander of the flying brigade, and a large group of comrades in arms were ordered to take off to intercept the enemy aircraft in the air, and after discovering that more than 60 American F-84 fighters appeared at a low altitude in the left front, although the strength of the enemy and us was very different, Wang Hai resolutely ordered an attack.
Wang Hai led several planes of this brigade to rush down, directly diving from an altitude of 6,000 meters to a low altitude of 1,500 meters, and scattered the enemy aircraft formation in one fell swoop. Taking advantage of the strong vertical mobility of the MiG-15 fighter, it constantly lifted off, swooped, took off again, and then swooped down, and the enemy aircraft formation was completely disrupted and panicked. In just 10 minutes, Wang Hai personally shot down two enemy planes, and his brigade shot down a total of 5 enemy planes, but he did not suffer any casualties, and achieved a 5:0 result.
In the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, Wang Hai created a brilliant record of shooting down and injuring 9 US planes, and was awarded the "First Class Combat Hero of the Air Force" for his special merits and first-class merits. The brigade he led was also known as the heroic "Wang Hai Brigade" for shooting down and injuring 29 enemy planes, and everyone had a record of battle, and was honored with a collective first-class merit.

According to what we Jiaodong people say, we say that we are brave and not afraid of death, pin our heads to the waistband of our pants, and solve everything.
At the beginning of the air war, the US military participated in the war with more than 1,200 aircraft, while the Chinese Volunteer Air Force participated in the war with less than 200 aircraft. U.S. air pilots all flew more than 1,000 hours, while Volunteer Air Force pilots averaged less than 100 hours. Chinese pilots can be said to be truly "learning war in war."
Wang Xiaohua: Chinese pilots are brave. You see Zhang Jihui, Liu Yudi, Jiao Jingwen, they are not afraid of death, that is, the bayonet in the air. It is written in my father's memoirs that the cannon was only fired at 140 meters recently, and after the cannon was fired, the wreckage of the enemy aircraft could hit the fuselage, and the fuselage was punched one by one, which was such a close distance, but the American pilots would not be so close. Aviation cadets who grew up in difficult situations "got moved everywhere, looking for old parts to assemble airplanes"
Wang Hai's excellent flight stemmed from his 3 years and 8 months of aviation knowledge training before he went to fight in Korea.
In 1944, at the age of 18, Wang Hai joined the Jiaodong Anti-Japanese Youth Detachment, joined the Communist Party of China the following year, and after the end of the Anti-Japanese War, Wang Hai became a student at Shandong University. In 1946, the first aviation school of our army, the Northeast Democratic Coalition Aviation School, was formally established in Tonghua, and Wang Hai was selected as the first batch of cadets of the school, and since then he has formed an indissoluble relationship with flying.
Wang Xiaohua: The old aviation school in the northeast was very difficult for a while, and the Kuomintang knew that the Communist Party had established an air force aviation school, so it sent spies to reconnoiter, and they were beaten by the Kuomintang to move everywhere, and the airport runway house was also blown up. My father said that after moving to Mishan, the house was either roofless or had no doors and windows, more than forty degrees below zero, and then made a floor, and the next morning the quilt could be frozen with the mouth, so hard. Just like this, the runway was built to repair the house, and the planes were organized everywhere to organize personnel to go to the three eastern provinces to find parts for the old aircraft to pull back, and then reassemble, this group of people can fly out, it is really not easy.

In July 1984, Wang Hai, who was already deputy commander of the Air Force, accompanied the then secretary of defense on a visit to the United States, and General Gabriel, chief of staff of the US Air Force, shook Wang Hai's hand and said, "You are wang hai on the Korean battlefield, and I was beaten down by you in Korea."
Wang Xiaohua: On that visit they took my father on a lot of military facilities that were only open to the Allies, and they were sitting on the backup plane of the USAF One, and the red carpet was spread all the way to the plane. After my father arrived, there was a deputy chief of staff who opened the door and opened the door and opened the umbrella, and they Americans all felt very strange, because this deputy chief of staff was usually particularly arrogant, and when others asked why, he said that because my father was the air force of a big country, he was the winner, and he said that I admired Wang Hai very much, and admired the Chinese air force.

Wang Xiaohua: Yes, I think why my father's generation was able to persist in such a difficult environment? The first is faith, the second is faith, the third is wisdom, and my father also said that pilots must be trained in great intensity to be suitable for a state of war, why train you? To be a soldier is to prepare for war, and my father said that we advocate the peaceful settlement of any dispute, but we are not afraid of war.

After the volunteer army returned to China, Wang Hai successively served as division commander, deputy commander, second director of the Military Training Department of the Air Force Command, commander of the Air Force of the Guangzhou Military Region, deputy commander of the Air Force, and commander of the Air Force.
Wang Xiaohua: I went to school in 1965 when I was 5 years old, and I saw that the biography of the heroes of the Volunteer Army included my father's name, and my brother told me that this was my father, and there was no concept at that time.

Wang Xiaohua: My father rarely told us this, I didn't know that he was a combat hero, I had no concept of a combat hero, and my mother never said it. I listen to others after work. In Wang Xiaohua's eyes, even if his father's memory deteriorated seriously in his old age, his nostalgia for his sacrificed comrades-in-arms and his concern for the development of the people's air force have not changed.
Wang Xiaohua: At the military parade marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China last year, I accompanied my father to watch TV from the beginning to the end, and he was very happy to see that our air force was equipped with the J-20, and he also instructed the young people to fly the J-20 to fly well.
