Researchers from China, Germany, Australia, Italy and other countries, led by the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences and the Qingdao Huada Gene Research Institute, used next-generation sequencing technology to carry out high-depth genome sequencing, assembly and analysis of Antarctic krill, and finally obtained a 48Gb super-large animal genome. That's about 16 times the size of the human genome.
The study also found that the genome repeat content of Antarctic krill compared with other crustaceans reached 92.45%, far exceeding the species that have been similarly studied in the scientific community.
