<h4>Imported marble hides paleontological fossils! </h4>
On January 8, the Office of the National Paleontological Fossil Expert Committee organized relevant experts to confirm on the spot that 53 of the 56 suspected paleontological fossils seized by Xiamen Customs in the imported marble products goods were generally protected paleontological fossils. This is also the first case of containing paleontological fossils seized at the guan in recent years.
On November 27, 2019, a trading company in Xiamen declared to Xiamen Customs in the form of general trade that a batch of marble blocks and marble products had been imported from Morocco. The customs officer at the customs site inspected and found that the front part of the container of the batch of goods was the marble block of the declared goods, and the marble products carried in the middle of the container were abnormal in shape, suspected of some kind of fossil. The customs immediately sealed the goods and at the same time requested the land and resources department to intervene in advance. After the identification of relevant experts, it was confirmed that of the 56 pieces of goods hidden in the marble, 53 were generally protected paleontological fossils, mainly fossils of cephalopods such as ammonites, trilobites and sea lilies, of which the largest marine lily fossils were about 190 cm long and 183 cm wide.
According to Article 32 of the Regulations on the Protection of Fossil Paleontology, where a domestic unit or individual enters the country with fossils of ancient organisms obtained from abroad, it shall declare to the Customs and go through the formalities for entering the country in accordance with the relevant provisions of customs administration. At present, the case has been transferred to the relevant departments for follow-up processing.
