The most desperate moment for a person is the awakening before death.
He was the most ordinary person in America, but the difference was that his dark complexion was incompatible with other personalities. In that era of the most racial discrimination, his life seemed to be stained with unclean ink. Discrimination has become the norm, and despite his excellence in every way, he eventually lived a life of inactivity.
Spring heart sprouted, in order to pursue love, he sent his life to the end of the road, behind this is the source of racial discrimination or his own fate to eat evil consequences?
Distort growth under society
The protagonist of this story is named Brith, an American, but his ancestors are from South Africa, as to why he came here, we have to mention the historical black trade - "triangular trade".
The triangular trade began in the 15th century, and in the course of more than 400 years of slavery, countless Africans were killed and thousands of blacks were trafficked to the Americas.
In the eyes of the hard-working traffickers, the negroes were nothing more than lowly goods, and they never treated them as human beings, so they received a very humiliating title of "black slaves".
In 1865, the black liberation movement swept the country, and Brith's ancestors were liberated, but people's deep-rooted ideas were difficult to change, and black people in the United States were still treated unfairly for a long time.
Blacks born in such an environment were an injustice of the times, and Brith was one of them.
Long-standing discrimination has prevented blacks in the United States from living a normal life, let alone finding high-paying jobs. Therefore, most black people can only be permanently linked to the word "poverty", as evidenced by Brith's ancestors.
Seeing that Brice grew up day by day, his parents still hoped that their son could go to school, even if he could not change his fate through knowledge, it could be less dangling in front of their eyes. So Brith was sent to the local public school by his parents.
The school system in the United States is very different from that in the mainland, the quality of teaching in our public and private schools is not much worse, and in the United States, basically families with conditions send their children to private schools, where there are the best educational resources in the United States. But the average bristle had to go to the local public school, which was a chaotic and degenerate place.
Most of the students are problem students, they have no interest in learning, every day in school is either sleeping in class, or getting into trouble, and has long regarded fighting as a common thing.
The teachers here are even more reluctant to get into trouble, so they turn a blind eye to their behavior, and complete their work in the classroom every day, and the rest depends on the students themselves.
Perhaps elsewhere, such a model can exercise students' ability to learn independently, but here it undoubtedly destroys them, in a place where no one learns, a person learning is isolated, laughed at and excluded.
So Here, by playing in small groups, Brith learned the only truth that "fists can solve anything."
In this way, with his fists, Brith finished high school, and he naturally entered the society without college. If a white man walks out of society, there are many jobs for him to choose from, and a black man can only do hard and tiring work, and Brith finally really feels the real pain of discrimination at this moment.
But he had no choice but to do physical work all day, support himself with a meager income, and look at the faces of the white people, and several times when there was a conflict, Brith seemed to win with his fists, and seemed to win everything. But he knew that from the moment he was born in this country, his life had long been lost at the starting line.
There will always be opportunities in life, and Brith has seized a rare opportunity.
Conscription into the army was discriminated against
Since the 1970s, the population growth rate in the United States has been declining, the number of births has decreased significantly, and it is precisely the shortage of troops that need a large population that has begun to appear, which has made the government very distressed. So they came up with a way to open up the conscription restrictions and let blacks into the army, thus solving the headache of the population problem.
This news made the confused Brith very excited, he felt that his life had appeared, so he immediately went to sign up, and he successfully enlisted in the U.S. Army and became an ordinary infantryman. This identity made him particularly happy, and it also made him ignite the idea of loving life.
As everyone knows, this government initiative has caused a lot of dissatisfaction with many people, who are white soldiers. They were reluctant to work with the blacks, so they vented all their dissatisfaction on these uninvited guests.
Brith came here with an open mind to study, where he trained hard every day, his military achievements were at the forefront, and he had surpassed many white people, but he was still not respected.
But fortunately, Brith became the squad leader by his own efforts, which is a great reward for him, but it also means that he must redouble his efforts to make his achievements seem less cheap.
Brice gave his all his efforts here, and if nothing was wrong, he would stay in the army for a long time, and there was a good chance of changing the fate of the next generation of his family, but his career was ruined by a game and an incompetent impulse.
At that time, the troops wanted to hold a shooting match, and Brith was very serious, but he was obviously the first place in the game, but he became the second place because of his skin color, and the referee played Brith with perfunctory reasons.
This made him understand that his hard work was just a joke in the eyes of this group of people, and as long as he was here for one day, he would not have any head start!
Brith, who was going to quell his anger and end it, turned to see a group of white soldiers, and for a moment, for unknown reasons, his anger burned again. If you were white, wouldn't everything be different? Why did God make him a black man? He hated himself, but he also hated the white people.
Hate their unprovoked discrimination, hate that they are born so superior, hate that they can easily obtain things that they can't get with all their might.
So without saying a word, he vented his dissatisfaction with his fists, and he was already ostracized, and after this time, he was forced to retire.
Brice, who took the retirement pension, married a wife and had his own children, and the chai rice oil and salt of life gradually made him unaffordable. So Brith found a job as a security guard, and life at home began to improve, and everything was going in a good direction.
But what changed his life was coming.
The search for love must not be reported
In the process of being a security guard, Brith met a very beautiful female clerk, this girl can be said to be his muse, in fact, now analyzing Brice's psychology, it can be clearly found that he is not purely fond of this girl.
On the one hand, Brith already has a family, but he ignores the responsibilities of the family and resolutely falls in love with this girl. Many people will encounter their own ideal type, but most people are not with them, for many reasons such as: already have a family, the two sides are not suitable, and so on.
And Brith regards this encounter as true love, he puts aside all moral shackles and intends to fall in love with his whole heart, which is cramped and pale.
On the other hand, it is normal for Brith to fall in love, but one thing that cannot be ignored is that the woman is white.
Brith, who has long been discriminated against by white men, always wants to find dignity, and he feels that if he can be with white women, he will not only gain a love, but also get the envy of white men. So he will set his sights on this girl, which is not only his ideal type, but also can harvest additional things, why not enjoy it?
So Bris began a fanatical pursuit, talking to the girl every day, trying to win her heart. But the girl was unmoved, because she didn't like Brice at all, and Brice's behavior had seriously affected her.
She didn't want to be "harassed" like this anymore, so she accepted Brith's invitation to coffee and wanted to make it clear.
No one expected that Brith thought that the girl was willing to accept her, confessed to her affectionately, hoped that she could be his girlfriend, and the girl was naturally unwilling, so she refused Brith without hesitation.
This made Brith very desperate, and his bold show of love ended like this, and The next day Brith, who went to work with a sense of loss, received an unacceptable message. He was fired because the girl had reported him, and the news left him where he was, and he suddenly woke up.
I was destined not to get the girl's heart, but why should I report myself? Now that he has lost his hard-earned job and the family's income has been interrupted, where is his way out? Bris fell into despair.
This time, he did not choose to start all over again, but embarked on a road of no return.
Because of the difference between love and hate
Unable to get out of his grief, Brith, who lost his job, fell into a dead end and wondered all day why the girl was doing this to herself.
He didn't think about whether it was because his behavior was somewhat offensive, but kept thinking, was it because he was a black man? Can you only be treated like this? If the other person is a white man, the girl must not be like this. He blamed all the blame on the girl, on the fact that he was black, and got deeper and deeper.
Bris didn't choose to drop everything, find another job, and live seriously, he was full of thoughts about how to retaliate. Brys, who was born in the army, is the best at marksmanship, so he decided to use the simplest method to come to the hatred that lingered in his heart.
On this day, he took the gun and lurked on the girl's way to work every day, and then when she passed by, a shot quickly came, and the young and beautiful life fell. Brith was quickly taken to the police station by the police, and his fate was already predestined from the moment he opened the gun.
The trajectory of Brith's life, it seems that fate has been pushing him, in fact, the reasons that led him to this step are very complicated, fate is certainly an immutable aspect, but personal choice is also quite important.
He couldn't get out of the hurdle in his heart, he regarded the color of his skin as the key to his fate, and Brith could not get out of such a haze in his life, and no one could save him.
Brith, whose fate has been decided, has a turnaround in the courtroom, and the result is also expected.
Fell into despair and was sentenced to death
Once Brith was imprisoned, there was only one way out — the death penalty.
Although the contradiction between blacks and whites is deep, not all white people look at blacks with discriminatory eyes, and there is a righteous lawyer willing to fight for Brith.
He made it clear that Brice was born at the bottom of the United States, was not well educated, and lived in the eyes of discrimination along the way, and that his life itself was a tragedy. The reason why I embarked on this road is also a kind of compulsion, if he is directly sentenced to death, is it not fair?
The lawyer's speech made the case start to make a difference, and in the case of Brith's verdict, two different voices have been in court, but then the "death penalty" result has prevailed. After all, no matter how uneducated, life should not be trampled on at will.
Brith was not surprised by this result, because he knew that he had indeed done something wrong, and if he did it wrong, he should be punished. But he also wondered, why would a white man commit the same crime without being punished?
Such a voice tormented Brith all the time, and he could only attribute the reason to his own skin color. Brith, who was sentenced to death, has been in prison and has not been immediately executed.
In the days of prison, although he lost his freedom, it was another kind of luck, but half a year later he heard a message. The lawyer who defended himself mysteriously died at home, and he was said to have received a bullet threat during his lifetime.
Bris understands that it is all because of himself, his emotions are only painful, he seems to have been moving forward in the fog, never finding a way out, Brith can only continue to sink in pain.
In 1982, Texas had just reinstated the death penalty, and three years later, in 1985, Brith was blindfolded and taken to the suburbs, knowing that all that awaited him was death.
The prison guards let Brith and his relatives and friends meet for the last time, and Brith looked at the familiar face, and the tears flowed involuntarily, and the last look at the last side was precious.
Before he died, Brith was taken to the confessional, and the pastor said to him, "Child, pray to Jesus, so that your soul can be liberated and you will have a good life in heaven."
He couldn't listen to such words of redemption, as if to himself, as if to ask the times: Why am I a black man, why was I born here?
After saying that, the cold liquid was injected into his body, and after a while, Brith died. His life is really lamentable, this is a person's life, but also a reflection of the times.
Epilogue:
A life with tragic overtones is a portrayal of Brith's life, and perhaps being born as a black man in that era was doomed to tragedy.
But who can conclude that the background of life cannot be changed? Bliss, who is addicted to his own emotions, can't and won't want to go out of his own world, and "colored glasses" do exist, but that is not an excuse for depravity.
If Brith hadn't fired that shot, if Brith hadn't made a big fuss about the army, if Brith had had a good education in school. Wouldn't that all be different? But time cannot be turned back, and if the "effect" can only be attributed to the former "cause".
