Abstract: Carp used to be the "standard" at rural banquets, why is it becoming less and less popular now?

Among the many freshwater fish, for me, the least favorite fish is carp. My dislike of carp has actually been there since I was a child.

However, in the past, carp was one of the most common freshwater fish, and usually the family came to the guests, or the festival, especially in the New Year, every household would buy a few carp. I came to the countryside to hold a banquet, and carp was also standard.

Carp was once the "standard" at rural banquets, so why is it becoming less and less popular now?

In my hometown, no matter who held the banquet, there used to be a carp. The whole carp is fried in oil, then put in a pot and boiled for a while, then potted. The whole fish brought it to the table, which was a very sought-after hard dish at the time, and the big guys would rush to eat it, and it would be divided up in a moment.

The reason why the carp in the past was so popular was because there were many people who farmed carp at that time, and its size was just right, and a carp was a bowl of vegetables.

The second is that its meaning is very good, fish in the mainland food culture originally means "more than every year", and carp and high appearance, good looks have become a kind of folk "auspicious fish", so eating carp at the banquet, or festival has a deeper meaning.

Carp was once the "standard" at rural banquets, so why is it becoming less and less popular now?

But even so, I still don't like carp. The good news is that in recent years, carp has gradually fallen off the "altar", carp can not be seen in many rural banquets, and even many families rarely have carp at festival dinners, but are replaced by other fish.

It is safe to say that there are fewer and fewer people who love to eat carp now, and carp is not popular with people before, why is this? Here I would like to talk about some of my own views, and let's listen to see if there is any reason.

First: the meat quality of carp is not good.

When I was a child, I didn't like to eat carp much, because its fish meat was not very tight, compared to grass carp and bluefish, its fish meat was indeed much worse. Even I feel that carp is not as good as silver carp. Because the silver carp in the past was a very large one, the belly of a dozen pounds of silver carp was the most delicious.

Carp was once the "standard" at rural banquets, so why is it becoming less and less popular now?

In recent years, the carp farmed has basically grown up eating feed, and they grow faster and are larger. Compared with the carp that grew up eating feed in this way, compared with the carp in the past, it is like the chicken that grew up eating feed and the native chicken raised in the countryside, the difference is very obvious, the taste is too poor, and naturally many people do not like to eat.

Second: carp have many spines and are not easy to handle.

I remember when I was very young, once eating carp accidentally got stuck in my throat, and I thought of a lot of ways to get it out. Before, my family often bought carp to eat, but after this incident, the number of times to eat carp was significantly less, most of them were bought grass carp, blue carp, or carp and other fish with fewer spines.

Carp was once the "standard" at rural banquets, so why is it becoming less and less popular now?

I have to say that the carp spines are really a lot, and they are all small thorns. Even if you peel open the meat and look closely, there may be a small thorn hidden inside. If you accidentally eat it in your mouth, it is still easy to get stuck in your throat. It is estimated that many people do not like to eat carp, and it has a lot to do with its fish bones.

Third: folk say that carp is a hair product, and many people don't like to eat it.

In my hometown, there is a saying that carp is a hair object. In particular, some adults are even more convinced of this, most of them will ask before eating fish, if they know that it is carp, they generally do not eat it again.

Regarding the fact that carp is a hair product, this is said to be in many places in the south of the continent. It is said that some people with hidden diseases eat this fish, which is easy to lead to the recurrence of old diseases.

Carp was once the "standard" at rural banquets, so why is it becoming less and less popular now?

In the past, because of the harsh conditions, carp was easy to breed, there were many people raising, and its price on the market was not expensive, so many people often bought carp to eat. Like the rural banquet, a large number of carp are bought as hard dishes, also because the price of carp is cheap. And now that the living conditions are better, most people pursue quality in terms of eating, and they don't like to eat carp.

Finally, consumers' tastes have become pickier, and carp has replaced fish more.

It's also important to note that consumer tastes are becoming more and more discerning now. It is because the standard of living has improved, the peasants' pockets have bulged, and they have enough courage and confidence to buy better fish.

Moreover, compared with before, the fish in the rural market are now more abundant, and because of the convenience of transportation, many fish from other places can also be seen in the market, and even some marine fish are very common. Compared with carp, the price is a little more expensive, but the taste and nutritional value are more advantageous, and naturally more people choose other fish, rather than preferring carp.

Carp was once the "standard" at rural banquets, so why is it becoming less and less popular now?

In my hometown, carp is now considered a cheap fish. However, farmers run banquets, and now the pursuit of high-grade, such as lobster, hairy crab, abalone, etc. have been on the table, which should be one of the reasons why carp is rarely seen in rural banquets now!
