At present, the dachun maize in Songming County is in the trumpet mouth stage, which is a critical period for vegetative growth, and also the peak period for the spawning of the corn grassland night moth, borer and beet night moth.
In order to actively promote the unified prevention and control of crop diseases and insect pests and green prevention and control work, effectively improve the control effect of maize nocturnal pests and reduce the amount of pesticides used, and ensure the safety of corn production, on July 13, the County Agricultural and Rural Bureau and the Songyang Street Agricultural Comprehensive Service Center carried out the demonstration and promotion of 200 acres of red-eyed bees to control pests such as corn grassland night moths and borers in Longfu Village, Sijiao Neighborhood Committee.
At the demonstration site, the staff made a demonstration of the technical essentials of releasing red-eyed bees, that is, 13,000 to 14,000 red-eyed bees per acre, 4 release points per acre, selecting the leaves of the upper part of a corn plant at the bee release point, and fixing the red-eyed bee card with a toothpick or stapler on the main leaf vein on the back of the leaf.
In 2022, the county plans to complete the release of 4,000 mu of red-eyed bees, of which 700 mu are each in Songyang, Yangqiao, Xiaojie and Yanglin, and 1,200 mu in Niulanjiang Town, and is expected to be released on July 15, with a total of 55 million red-eyed bees.
According to the relevant person in charge of the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, this year is the sixth year of songming county release of red-eyed bees to control nocturnal moth pests such as corn borers and beet moths, and it is also the year with the largest stocking area.
Red-eyed bees
The red-eyed wasp is a small egg parasitic wasp of the family Waspidae, which is rich in resources, widely distributed and has a significant role in pest control. The factory mass breeding of red-eyed bees mainly uses host eggs such as tulip silkworm eggs, rice moth eggs, wheat moth eggs, etc., and some regions use Mediterranean mealybug and grain borer eggs for reproduction. At present, the main varieties of red-eyed bees commercially produced and sold at home and abroad are: borer yellow red-eyed bees, pine caterpillar red-eyed bees, rice borer red-eyed bees, corn borer red-eyed bees and so on.
