Rural proverb: "Cows often eat plough grass, and spring hearts are often not easy to grow old", what does it mean?

author:A bustling tree

Recently, Brother Li was a little annoyed. The reason for Brother Li's upset is that one of the cows he breeds actually suffers from mastitis, because the cow's udder is very painful, so the cow is reluctant to breastfeed the calf, and once the calf cannot eat milk, its health is worrying.

Rural proverb: "Cows often eat plough grass, and spring hearts are often not easy to grow old", what does it mean?

Two days ago, When Brother Li chatted with an old farmer about his cow, when Brother Li finished talking about the problems in his own cow, the old farmer said: Why don't you usually feed the cows more plough grass? Haven't you heard the rural saying that "cows often eat plough grass, and spring hearts often do not grow old"?

"What? Do we still have such a saying in the countryside? What is Ploughshares? Brother Li asked incomprehensibly.

The old farmer said: In our countryside, there is indeed such a saying. As for saying that you don't know what ploughweed is, I can give you a nagging.

Next, the old farmer began to explain to Brother Li about the plough grass. The old farmer said:

Ploughweed is a perennial herb with upright stems and few creeping branches.

There are more basal leaves on the stem of ploughweed grass, its leaves are ovate, broad ovate or triangular ovate, the leaves are 3-8 cm long and 3-8 cm wide, the apex of the leaves is pointed or slightly blunt, the base of the leaves is deep-heart-shaped or broad-heart-shaped, there are no glabrous or sparse short hairs on both sides, and at the same time, there are more round blunt teeth on the edges of the leaves.

The petiole of ploughshares is usually nearly equal to the length of the leaf during the flowering period, and the petiole appears longer than the leaf during the fruiting period. The uppermost part of the petiole has extremely narrow wings, which are usually hairless on the wings; the leaves of the ploughshares are shorter, and the lower part of the leaves are combined with the petiole, and are about 1 cm long.

The flowers of the ploughweed are lilac; the sepals of the flowers are broad lanceolate, 5–7 mm long and about 2 mm wide, the sepals are tapering at the apex, the appendages at the base of the sepals are about 2 mm long, and the ends are blunt or flattened. The upper petals of the ploughweed are inverted ovate with the lateral petals, about 1.2–1.4 cm long and about 5–6 mm wide, with the lateral petals glabrous inside, the upper petals are long inverted heart-shaped, and the petals are slightly absent at the tip, 4–5 mm long and about 2 mm wide.

The rhizomes of ploughshares are thick and short, densely internodal, about 4-5 mm thick, and the brown rhizomes have multiple branches, which look thick and elongated.

Plough grass is mostly produced in Jiangsu, Shandong, Fujian, Henan, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan and other provinces and regions of the forest edge, under the forest open grassland, mountain grass and valleys. Sometimes, it also appears in farmland.

It has been determined that plough grass contains more than 10 kinds of alkaloids like ditin grass. From alkaloids, it can be obtained from butadicin, ethyl, propylene and butyrin, in addition, ploughweed also contains coumarin lactones, steroidal saponins, phenolic substances, neutral resins, estrogens and volatile oils.

In the past, some cow farmers were particularly fond of using plow grass to feed cows. According to cow farmers, once the cow often eats plough grass, not only will not suffer from mastitis and various carbuncles, but also its mental condition is particularly good, every day has youth vitality, even when the cow is old, the cow will not appear mentally weak!

Elder Brother Li listened to the old farmer's introduction here, and finally had some preliminary understanding of the plough grass, so He planned to talk with the old farmer often in the future days, so that he could learn more about the experience of breeding cows, so that he could take fewer detours on the road of breeding cows.
