Kolmanskop, Namibia
It is a legendary city
Once the richest paradise in Africa
Now it is abandoned
Submerged under yellow sand
Namibia in the southwest corner of Africa
▆ In 1908, while building the railway to the port city of Luderitz, a railway worker found a glittering stone in the sand of nearby Kamansk.
▆ When the news of the discovery of the diamond spread, it immediately triggered a mining boom.
▆ The early miners were mostly Germans and built Kamansk in the style of their hometown. In the luxurious town, you can also find a hospital, dance hall, ice factory, tavern and perfect power generation equipment.
▆ It was not only the first city in Africa to open a tram, but even the first X-ray machine in the southern hemisphere, but unfortunately it was not used in the hospital, but at the exit of the mine, checking whether the workers were hiding diamonds.
▆ When the town was at its peak, there were about 700 families and about 1200 residents, but the good times were short-lived, and after the First World War, the town gradually withered away as the local diamond resources dried up. One day in 1954, "the team that cleaned up the sand in Kamansk did not appear, the icemakers left, and the school bells finally stopped."
▆ After the city was abandoned, Huangsha occupied it.
▆ Today, the nearby Port of Ludlitz is still bustling.
▆ Kamansk, just 15 minutes away, is like a lifetime away.
▆ The glory of the past is buried under the yellow sand, turning into a paradise for ruined explorers and photographers.
▆ On this trip to Namibia, land Rover defenders' experience through the seaside desert has achieved countless unexpected surprises, while in Kamansk, all the planned shooting has been achieved unsurprisingly.
▆ The combination of changing light, dilapidated walls and various line colors offers unlimited photographic potential.
▆ The town hospital is the best-preserved building in the ruins.
▆ Imagine the busy scene of doctors and nurses shuttling between corridors in the past.
▆ Now on the mottled walls, mold is overgrown, making me miserable with allergies.
▆ The ice factory in the town, the hot African summer, the guarantee of cold beer.
▆ The town's train station to the port was abandoned along with the mine.
▆ Thanks to the dry weather in Africa, the equipment for loading and unloading ore is still well preserved.
▆ The warehouse where the equipment was stored is now eerie.
▆ People go to empty schools, and there is no joy of children.
▆ Time seems to stop at once, the unfinished work is still preserved in its final state, and only the flow of sand and dust can be heard in the air.
▆ Early luxurious buildings, the walls are bright and open in color.
▆ The pattern of various decorations is meticulous and exquisite.
▆ The German craftsmanship spirit, even paint must be brushed more than three layers.
▆ Now everything is gone, only the glory days of the past, buried under the gravel.
▆ The morning sun lazily shines in and projects into the ruins invaded by yellow sand, which makes people feel mysterious and terrifying.
▆ The corner buried by yellow sand can also see the exquisitely crafted porch.
▆ A sandstorm the day before erased the footprints of tourists, and the delicate sand lines passed through the dark blue walls and led to the sunlight-illuminated porch at the end.
▆ Imagine a foreman, holding a cold beer after work and taking a hot bath.
▆ Nearby workers' dormitories, the words on the walls are not known when they were left.
▆ Surreal style scenes can be seen everywhere.
▆ Visitors from different periods leave their own impressions of visiting here on the thick dust of the glass.
▆ Did the people who lived here realize their dreams? Where are they now?
▆ After the glory of the past, how many untold stories are there.
▆ In the evening, from the ghost town, it is a completely apocalyptic scene: a sandstorm sweeps the sun and breaks the last doors and windows of the city.
▆ A little light that lights up the ghost town, and no one will share it tonight.
▆ Capriccio under the stars of ruins: There will always be a day of decline under prosperity, just as light and darkness can never be separated...
