Ma Xiao (1886~1937) was a famous painter, art theorist and educator in the early Qing Dynasty. The word Qi Zhou, also known as Zi Jun, alias ring neutron, also known as Qiongchi Fishing Father. A native of Xichang, Sichuan, he lives in Shanghai. Hui. He was a professor at Shanghai Meizhan University. Yu painting is impossible, especially the northern school of landscapes, strictly arranged, rendering deep shows, but the writer's popularity is heavier. He is the author of "Ma Xiao Painting Question", and his "Ma Xiao Painting Treasure" was written in 1928. Before the War of Resistance, he was about fifty years old.
Ma Xiao was young and lonely, diligent and studious, cool and good at painting and brilliant. Slightly longer, from the famous master Zhou Kaijian to learn painting, for Zhou's disciples. After that, he left his hometown to roam, traveled throughout the country several times, and then traveled east to Japan, and after returning to China, he lived in Shanghai, where he was favored by the calligraphy Nanzong Zengxi, who officially included him in the door wall as a disciple. Ma Xiao was fortunate to have such a master's true biography, and his learning was greatly improved, and his poetry, calligraphy and painting were called "three absolutes".
Ma Xiao became famous in Shanghai, and was employed as a professor at the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts, and was closely related to Professor Huang Binhong, Zhang Shankai, Yu Jianhua and other professors. Later, Zhang Shankai's brother Dagan went to Shanghai from Sichuan, and also worshiped Zeng Xi as a teacher, and had a relationship with Ma Xiao as a teacher.
In the 19th year of the Republic of China (1930), Ma Xiao was invited by the Japanese Academy of Painting to hold a solo exhibition in Japan. Later, he participated in exhibitions in London, Panama, Hong Kong, Singapore and other places.
During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Ma Xiao not only painted charity sales to support the front line, but also personally went to the battlefield to sketch and created a number of art works such as "Not Afraid of the Enemy, Brave the Three Armies" to praise patriotic heroes and encourage the morale of the anti-Japanese resistance.
Ma Xiao never forgot his hometown, called himself "Qiongchi Fisher Father", and often used this number of plutonium and inscription in painting. Knowing that his hometown had rebuilt the county chronicle, he specially drew the "Eight Views and Six Scenic Spots of Xichang" (a total of 14 paintings) and made a zinc version and sent it to the county chronicle bureau.
In the 26th year of the Republic of China (1937), the Japanese aircraft invaded China bombed Shanghai, and Ma Xiao died of grief and anger due to the death of his only son, and he died soon after, at the age of 51.
His paintings were compiled and printed into a collection and published in 1 volume of "Qi Zhou Painting Collection" and 1 volume of "Qi Zhou Painting". His works on the theory of words were officially published in 1 volume of "Four Words and Painting Tips", 20 volumes of "Ma Xiao Painting Tips", and 4 volumes of "Ma Xiao Painting Questions". The latter is prefaced by Zeng Xi, and Tian Tong inscribed a poem at the beginning of the volume: "A tourist in the north and south of the great river, with his head held high outside the sky."
