"Spring in the Cattle Herding Class" sees the shadow of a good father in Matthew

Just a few days ago, the famous French director, producer, actor and screenwriter Jacques Behan passed away at the age of 80.

As ordinary people, we may not know much about the legendary film master Jacques Behan, but we must be familiar with a movie that is closely related to him, that is, "Spring of the Cattle Herding Class". Jacques Behan not only starred in the classic film, but also as the film's producer.

It's a film about love and indoctrination that tells the story of a teacher named Matthew who comes to a juvenile correctional home called "Bottom of the Pond" to become a school supervisor.

Every time I watch this movie, I have a different feeling. When revisited now, the scene at the end of the film in which Matthew first rejects Peppino but finally takes the poor child away makes my eyes moist and unforgettable.

Matthew is a single man, but I saw the image of a father and learned from him how to be a good father.

01 Equal treatment is a prerequisite

Matthew, a failed school supervisor, experienced setbacks in all fields, and he finally fell into the lowest trough of his life and fatally came to the "bottom of the pond".

The first time he met a student, Matthew was subjected to a lot of drama.

In the distance, I heard the noise boiling in the classroom, pushed open the wooden door to see the skull with a lit cigarette butt in its mouth, and just after getting on the podium, it slipped and fell, and the flying bag was thrown around by the students.

It wasn't until the principal appeared that the classroom returned to its supposed calm. Unlike the headmaster's loftiness, Matthew has looked at this group of "problem teenagers" from the beginning with a level view.

So he did not choose the "action-punish" model, but used good lies to tolerate this group of children. In the stunned eyes of both began the dialogue of life equally between teachers and students.

As everyone knows, it was Matthew's initial equal treatment of children that built the bridge and foundation of communication between them.

There is also a hilarious and moving plot in the film.

When he saw Pierre drawing his own caricature, he deliberately drew his bald head. He did not get angry or rebuke him, but in turn drew one for Pierre, exaggeratedly painting another circle of red on his nose to make the children laugh.

Matthew never used his authority as a school supervisor to intimidate the children, but rather treated them as people like himself. This kind of equality is something that children have never encountered, so they gradually open their hearts to Matthew, and even develop feelings beyond teachers and students.

That is the Father's love hidden deep within them.

As fathers, can we put aside our father's authority, bend down, and communicate with our children on an equal footing?

Matthew's experience in the play tells us that as long as you treat your children equally, they will always open the window of the heart to you.

02 Strict kindness is the way

As soon as he entered the campus, Maxons, the janitor with Matthew's familiar environment, was injured by a problem teenager, Lake.

The tyrannical headmaster vowed to find the student and punish him fiercely, so that Lake, the initiator, did not dare admit his mistake. When Matthew arrives at the class, he discovers the truth that Lake hurt Maxons and encourages Lake to apologize to Maxons and take care of him.

Matthew is a kind man, but also a person with love in his heart, but he will not blindly cover up and indulge in children who have made mistakes. He will find a way to make them take the initiative to take responsibility for making mistakes and be deeply aware of their mistakes.

It can be seen that on the question of principle, he will only choose a more reasonable way, rather than concessions.

Pierre, who is extremely talented in music in the film, discovers Matthew's love for his mother and angrily throws ink on Matthew's head.

His mother was disappointed in him, but Matthew did not blame him and told him that his mother should send Pierre to the conservatory and not bury his talents.

Matthew treats everyone with clear rewards and punishments, and is strict with each other.

After this incident, Pierre's singing part was deleted, and Pierre angrily walked out of the classroom. A week later, Matthew ignored Pierre's indifferent look, until Matthew stopped signaling for Pierre to solo, and the jealousy in his eyes disappeared.

Pierre prides himself on his talent and feels that the choir class cannot do without him no matter what. Matthew also appreciates the child's music and has high hopes for the child.

But that doesn't justify Pierre's mistakes without any penalty.

In Matthew's view, even love and appreciation cannot override principles.

There is no doubt that Matthew has won the respect and affection of the children, but this is not achieved through blind flattery, but equal respect, rewards and punishments.

Parents love their children, and they have far-reaching plans for them.

Love is a loving father, and far-reaching is strict, and neither is indispensable.

03 Deep love is the soul

In terms of feelings, Matthew has always been alone, unmarried and has no children, although he loves Mo Hangzhi's mother, but in fact, it is wishful thinking, everything is not resolved, more heartfelt is that Mo Hangzhi's mother asked Matthew to come out to communicate things, Matthew was full of joy to bring flowers to see her, unexpectedly, what he got was that the other party met a satisfactory partner and planned to live together, the movie made this scene more heart-wrenching, the beautiful person was picked up by a private car, leaving Matthew alone at the table, As a result, the chair opposite was taken away by others, and it is conceivable that he was lonely and lonely.

Although it was heartbreaking enough, Matthew did not forget to cover the sleeping child with a quilt when he returned.

This detail shows how kind and warm his heart is, and how deep and natural his love for his children is.

If other plots of love and indoctrination in the film can be analyzed and commented on from the function of education and induction, then this detail can only be understood from the pure perspective of human nature and love.

Matthew is a man of love in his heart, he is full of love for children, and I think this is the source and destination of all his actions in the film.

Matthew did not make a name for himself until he left this world, but this story remained in the hearts of the children, and he also harvested Peppino on the day he left school, and the cute Peppino who lost his parents also gained an incomparably kind relative. We can understand it as the end of a father's love.

The child's heart is the purest and softest, and as fathers, we should not hesitate to express our love for the child.
