U.S. 5G Network Speed Measurement: T-Mobile is destroying competition

According to foreign media reports, all major U.S. mobile operators are working to improve their 5G networks. But no one can beat T-Mobile yet.

Ookla, a website that analyzes internet performance, recently released a market analysis for the first quarter of 2022. The study shows that T-Mobile's 5G performance far exceeds verizon and AT&T.

T-Mobile 5G performance and availability are far ahead

Ookla publishes quarterly market analysis reports covering current speeds, latency, consistency, and availability for T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, and AT&T. The most recent first quarterly report for 2022 shows that T-Mobile's 5G network currently ranks first.

According to Ohkla, T-Mobile has the fastest median 5G download speed in the U.S., at 191.12Mbps, a slight increase from the previous quarter.

Verizon came in second, but was a big improvement from the previous quarter, from 78.52Mbps to 107.25Mbps. This improvement may be due to its new 5G C-band spectrum. According to Ookla, AT&T's performance has barely improved from the fourth quarter of 2021.

To test usability, Ookla looked at "the proportion of users using 5G end devices who spend most of their time using 5G (including roaming)," or 5G availability.

T-Mobile is also far ahead in this space, at 65%. Verizon and AT&T were 49.4 percent and 28.2 percent, respectively.

Finally, Ookla measured each carrier's ability to deliver consistent speeds on 5G connections. However, the countries with the highest 5G consistency scores have no clear winners.

The T-Mobile 5G FWA also leads the pack

In addition to providing wireless customers with some of the fastest, most widely available, and consistent 5G access, T-Mobile is also expanding its 5G home networking.

In March 2022, T-Mobile added 5G home networking coverage in the South, making more than 30 million homes available across the U.S. Nearly a month later, in April, T-Mobile's 5G home network expanded to 10 million new households, making the service accessible to more than 40 million households across the United States.

T-Mobile added more (fixed wireless access) broadband customers in the fourth quarter of 2021 than any other carrier in the country, and the company expects to have between 7 million and 8 million fixed wireless customers by 2025.

T-Mobile 5G home networking is connected to T-Mobile's 5G network through routers that convert signals to Wi-Fi. According to information on T-Mobile's website, its auto-renewal fee is $50 per month, and the download speed is generally 35 to 115mbps. (Jiang Junmu)
