Android 14 first exposed, codenamed "Flip Cake"

IT House news on April 23 that Android 13 is in beta for developers, but that doesn't mean all of Google's engineers are just focused on that version.

Recently, some of the first commits related to Android 14 have appeared on Android Gerrit. The submissions reference the next Android version and reveal a code name called "Upside Down Cake."

Google is known to name Android versions with dessert names, and this tradition has been maintained for a decade, with each version increasing as the alphabet increases. However, when Android 10 was launched, Google decided to abandon that tradition and named the Android version only numbers. However, these dessert codenames are still used internally.

IT House learned that in Android 14, it was the turn of the letter U, so the code name of Upside Down Cake is expected to be the code name of the version.

A flip cake is a cake baked upside down in a pan where ingredients (usually slices of fruit such as apples or pineapples) are placed at the bottom of the pan. Then pour the batter on top and bake it in the oven.
