World of Warcraft 10.0 New Talent Tree System Q&A

When can I get some talent?

The Talent System will be open when your class reaches level 10 and you start choosing a specialization. For magicians, because of their higher initial level, the Talent Tree will open at some stage of their initial experience.

How many Talent Points can you earn, and how do you get them?

Talent Points are earned through character upgrades. You earn one Talent Point for each level you level up, with Career Points and Specialization Points taking turns. Before the expansion pack, you'll earn a total of 51 Talent Points (26 Class Talent and 25 Specialization Talent) at level 60. When you reach the full level of level 70 in Dragon Age, you will receive a total of 61 Talent Points (31 Class Talent and 30 Specialization Talent).

Can I fill all the talents in the Career and Specialization Trees?

No, you can't get all the talents in these talent trees. Similar to the current system, the Full Talent Combo requires you to decide which talents to include.

Can I click on a specialization talent other than my current specialization?

No, you can't point to a specialization talent other than your current specialization. If you click on the Talent to Restore the Druid Tree and then switch to the Balance Specialization, the Effect of the Restored Tree will no longer take effect. You'll need to spend new Talent Points on the Balance Tree!

How do points in the Talent Tree work?

You must first earn the talents in the first row, and then fill all the levels of any talent before you can click on the talents in the next row (indicated by arrows). If a talent has multiple arrows pointing at it, you need to fully fill at least one pre-talent to get that talent.

Your Career Tree will automatically give you 1 or 2 initial talents based on your specialization before you start spending points. These talents do not require the cost of talent points and can be obtained for free.

A few rows of talents require you to spend a certain number of talent points before you can point them out.

What does the shape of Talent Points mean?

Squares represent active skills, circles represent passive effects, and octagons represent selection nodes where you can select one of several options.

What is the Diamond Skill on the Edge of the Talent Tree?

We did not plan to include this mechanism at the time of writing this blue post. We will provide further updates as necessary and we will continue to make changes to the functionality and mechanics of this system.

What is the talent with two small arrows next to it?

These are talent selection nodes, and when you move the mouse over the node, several feature selection options are displayed. These options contain new active skills or passive effects.

How does having multiple levels of talent work?

Talents with multiple levels cost extra points per level. There are currently no active skills with multiple levels, only passive effects. The numerical value of these passive effects does not necessarily receive a linear bonus with the talent invested. You must point all levels of multi-level talents to point to the next row of talents.

Will certain talents appear in multiple Specialized Talent Trees?

Yes, for example, the Wild and Guardian Talents will have rage talents in the Talent Tree, but not Recovery and Balance.

Note: We know that wild and guardian masters are not exactly the same, but we want to make it clear that talents do not need to be exclusive to a certain specialty tree, because they are in the specialty tree, not the class tree.

Will the Career Talent Tree also change when switching specializations?

Except in rare cases, switching specializations does not change the career tree. One of the exceptions is counter-firing, which turns into suppression if you choose survival specialization. Although these two interrupt skills, they have different themes and have different cooldowns. It is important to maintain this difference.

Career trees are all practical talents, while specialization trees are output skills?

No, there will definitely be some talent in the Class Tree that increases output, but the Specialization Tree will contain most of it. One of the main goals of the career tree is to give you space to explore the non-exporting parts of the career (such as practical skills, or skills that are closely related to other specializations), so we liberate the pressure to do a lot of output optimization in the career tree.

Are all Talent Points new?

No, most talents are present in current or previous games, but new active and passive skills will also be available in the new Class and Specialization Trees.

How do I gain skills when I upgrade to the Exiled Islands?

Most of the content of the Exile Islands remains the same, and you can still get a lot of basic skills by completing missions as well as the Exile Islands content. Your interaction with the New Talent System will begin after reaching level 10.

What about skills that are not available in the novice experience, but are important to the gaming experience, such as interrupting skills?

We're currently trying to add as many battle-altering skills as possible to the new talent tree, including movement skills, interrupt skills, dispel skills, mixed healing skills, and defense skills. Our goal is to build talent trees and paths that allow you to choose between different types of practical skills, rather than giving up all of your useful skills to maximize your DPS. If you choose not to interrupt the skill, it's possible that you chose another type of practical skill or control skill because you think that option would be more practical in the current situation. The reverse is also true, where specializations that do not have a skill in the Shadow Realm (such as the interrupt skill) can give up a skill they now have to choose the interrupt skill.

Will there be some preset talent trees for us to switch between?

yes! This tool is very important as we deal with more advanced Talent Tree systems. You can save and name many different talent combinations and switch between them at will.

Will players be reluctant to experience the Talent Tree and go directly online to find a talent combination to use?

This is sure to happen. We're also pretty sure players will find fun in different combinations of talents based on their own play style.

Compared to the Talent of the Shadow Realm, this Talent Tree looks too complicated.

We often see such discussions. The new system will certainly be more complex, but it will also give you more freedom to choose what you think is more important during the game. The complexity and depth of the new system certainly comes at a cost, but we believe that the benefit of the new gift system is that it is powerful enough to make up for the price paid. We're working hard to make sure that new players have limited talent options in the first few rows so that you don't have to struggle with too much time in the talent tree as you level up. In addition, being able to switch specializations in the main city means that you don't need to analyze this talent tree to make a decision, because if you want to try another path, feel free to reassign points.

How much will the Talent Tree contain compared to additional systems such as Legendary Items, Covenants, Spirit Guides, Soul Bonds, etc.?

We try to add as much career-related content as possible to the New Talent System, with one place to manage your character. There will still be some skills that are earned by leveling up, but the number will be drastically reduced. We don't think of skills like Eye of the Beast, Astral Teleportation, Teleportation: Moonlight Woodlands as skills that change battles, and you're unlikely to spend a talent point to get them again. These skills are not removed, they just don't appear in the Talent Tree, but are acquired by leveling up. In addition, we're trying to add as many combat-related skills to the Talent Tree as possible, which means you'll need to invest Talent Points to get your current skill back.

Having said earlier that we need to spend points to get our current skills, does that mean there is nothing new at all?

Definitely not! Age of Dragons will have new skills, as well as the return of artifact traits, set rewards, and legendary effects. The new system will also give you more opportunities to acquire skills other than specializations, or skill combinations that are not available in the Shadow Realm, such as choosing multiple talents from the same row of talents at the same time.

Does that mean I can get any specialized skills in the new system?

No, there will still be a lot of specialized content in the Talent Tree. The Guardian Druids will see a lot of tank-related content in their Specialization Tree, while restoring the Druids will not get it, and vice versa. Restoring a Druid can also invest more Bear-related skill points in the Class Talent Tree to gain more defense, while a Guardian Druid can also invest more Healing Talent Points in the Class Tree. The new Specialization Talent Tree will focus more on your combat characters.

What happens if the Covenant or Legend skill of the Shadow Realm appears in the Talent Tree and I equip that Covenant skill or Legend item?

The current plan is that these nodes will still appear in the Talent Tree, and you can get them, but your Shadow Realm Covenant or Legend skill will cover them. You won't cast multiple versions of the same skill or double the value of these effects. Not all Shadowland Covenant skills, legendary items, soul bonds, and spirit-guide effects will appear in the Talent Tree.

How will switching specializations work?

Switching specializations should be similar to Shadowlands, and you will switch talent combinations as you switch specializations. As for removing some nodes and spending points elsewhere, we're still working on it, but we want to be as simple as possible.

How will PvP talent change?

PvP Talents will continue to be the same, and the new Talent Interface will have PvP Talent Selection nodes for you to select additional effects in PvP situations.

What will happen to the Talent API?

It's a great question and I'm sure our interface team will solve it. Plugin authors and users have not been forgotten!

Will my class gain skills in the new Talent Tree?

Maybe. We still have a lot of work to do, and we need to be cautious about the amount of content that we add to the talent tree. If we just add all 21 talents from Shadowland to the Talent Tree, your character will get a lot of extra content.
