"The Tea House" shows the social changes of the three eras on the eve of the penghu reform, the warlord scuffle and the eve of the founding of New China in the past half century. A teahouse called Yutai reveals the darkness, corruption, strangeness, and multitude of beings in Chinese society for nearly half a century.

There are nearly 50 characters in the script, in addition to the tea house owner, there are flag people who eat imperial grain, capitalists who run businesses, eunuchs in the Qing Palace, priests who believe in foreign religions, poor peasants, as well as spies, thugs, policemen, hooligans, xiangshi, etc. There are many characters but have distinct personalities, they can "hear their voices and know their people", and "three words and two words outline the outline of a character image".

Through the dismal operation of the ancestral "Yutai Tea House" by the owner of the teahouse Wang Lifa, the work depicts that although he is shrewd and sleek, he finally cannot stop the end of decline, reflecting the trend of Chinese society from the side.
