"Metroid Prime" is a classic game owned by Nintendo, and the protagonist Sams Alan is also the earliest female hero in the history of video games, the strongest bounty hunter in the universe. This was exactly what Retro Studios, the developer of the Prime series, had for Sams, but at the time, Nintendo had a completely different understanding of who Sams was and what a bounty hunter was.
When Game Producer Bryan Walke of Metroid Prime 3 Falls discussed the team's initial concept of the last game in the trilogy with do You Know Gaming, the studio wanted to bring its bounty hunter positioning directly into the game by creating a more open world for Sams to explore. Bryan Walke wants players to operate outside of a linear flow and perform different tasks that are not necessarily directly applicable to the regular route processes that the game is familiar with, such as crossing, re-crossing, and so on. He believed Sams had the ability to take that step and do more.
Retro Studios will not reward Sams and players with money, as they will take on these bounties and missions through upgrades. All in all, it sounds like a brilliant idea, but unfortunately it never came to fruition. And all because Nintendo's views on Sams are divided.
Sams didn't do it for money, she was very selfless. I am concerned about people, and everything she does is actually out of the goodness of her heart, because she cares deeply about human nature, so she cannot have the title of "bounty hunter"... It wasn't until a few days after discussing with Nintendo that Retro Studios discovered that Nintendo didn't even know what the concept of "bounty hunter" was, but the gaming world had been using the term back in 1986!
Bryan Walke said the sams that didn't make up his mind were certainly not just because of this, but there were other factors.
