Recently, Hideo Kojima, producer of Death Stranding, personally clarified the claim that players in the industry believe that Kojima Studio is Sony's first-party studio or has been acquired by Sony.
Kojima Productions will remain an independent studio, Kojima said.
That means Hideo Kojima has made it clear that he has denied rumors that Sony is preparing to buy Kojima Productions, saying that the whole thing was caused by a "misunderstanding" caused by a tweet posted by Hideo Kojima.
As GamesRadar points out, earlier this week, Sony expanded the banner image on the PlayStation Studios website to include Sony's iconic video game characters including Kratos, Aloy and Seacon, and added "Crossbowman" Sam Porter Bridges from Death Stranding. Then, on April 15, Kojima himself tweeted the same image with the PlayStation Studios logo:
Unsurprisingly, a large number of fans on Twitter immediately grabbed the tweet, confirming that Kojima Productions would be the next big acquisition. It's a reasonable assumption: The studio for Death Stranding isn't Activision Blizzard, but making Hideo Kojima son Sony's exclusive studio will be a real success. Sony has recently started its own business, acquiring Bungie in January and Haven Studios in Jade Raymond in March.
Hours later, Kojima tweeted on his English account that Kojima Productions "will continue to be an independent studio."
So why did Kojima post an apparent Sony-centric image on Twitter? Maybe he's glad Sony has such a high opinion of Death Stranding, or maybe he's a huge fan of Sony himself. It's also possible that he just made a joke about the initial rumors sparked by the PlayStation banner change. Whatever the reason, he didn't reply. However, he was quick to add that the Mexican-French thriller New Order, directed by Michel Franco, was so good that he bought DVDs from two other Franco films, Marijuana and April's Daughter.
Maybe in his opinion, there is no need to follow the rhythm of others, and you can be comfortable with yourself.
