Sculpture is silent poetry, solidified music, freeze-frame dance, as a cultural symbol, sculpture is an art with visual appeal.
Since April 8, there have been local cases in Guangzhou, and the form of epidemic prevention and control is grim. In the face of the sudden epidemic, all parties in Guangzhou have united as one to fight the epidemic.
Recently, the reporter of Nanfang Net and Guangdong Learning Client interviewed Xu Hongfei, president of Guangzhou Sculpture Institute, to tell everyone the creation story behind the anti-epidemic series of sculptures.
Introduction to masterpieces
"Angel's Kiss" is one of Xu Hongfei's series of sculptures to fight the new crown epidemic created in 2020, showing the scene of husband and wife or lovers who are also medical workers encouraging each other after meeting each other during the fight against the epidemic.
"Nucleic Acid Measurement" is Xu Hongfei's "fat girl" as the prototype, using exaggerated techniques to record the scene of people doing nucleic acid testing in daily life.

Southern Network: In your "anti-epidemic" series of works, you have made a series of realistic works, what is the source of your works? What do you want to express? One of your works is called "Angel Kiss", is there anything behind this work that deserves the attention of the audience, can you share it?
Xu Hongfei: It was the Spring Festival of 2020, I was doing an exhibition in Spain, and when I heard that there was an epidemic in Wuhan, I came back from Spain on the fifth day of the New Year. As soon as I came back, I thought that the epidemic was so serious, I should do some anti-epidemic works that recorded this time.
"We're by Your Side"
My first work was "We're With You," where a group of medical staff surrounded a COVID-19 patient in rescue, meaning we're all around you, we have a bunch of medics, not alone.
"Mountains High man-made peaks"
The second work was "Mountains High for People as Peaks", based on Zhong Nanshan, supplemented by the body of the mountain, representing the "retrograde" spirit of unity of purpose, facing difficulties and the firm confidence in defeating the epidemic.
"Day and Night"
In the third work, I saw that many medical personnel were already very tired, resting from side to side, and wearing protective clothing, which meant that the weapons were not put down and could be put into battle at any time. So I did "Day and Night."
"Vulcan Mountain Builder"
Later, I saw that the Vulcan Mountain Cabin Hospital was built in nine days and nine nights, and I did "The Builder of Vulcan Mountain", reflecting China's speed, Chinese spirit, and national responsibility.
I have created a series of anti-epidemic works in succession, including nucleic acid testing and vaccination of "fat women", a total of 12 pieces.

The work "Angel's Kiss" is quite special, and I use realism to record that the lovers who are also medical staff meet at work, hug each other, encourage and cheer each other, they are immediately going to fight, all wearing protective clothing. I also know that there are many similar families, couples, lovers or friends through reading some news reports, so this work records the spirit of medical staff giving up small love for big love during the epidemic, full of love and emotion, and hope.
In fact, there are many works that express love in the art world and in the sculpture world, but it is still relatively rare to wear protective clothing and appear in front of everyone's eyes under the epidemic situation like "Angel Kiss". Through the sculpture three-dimensional shaping and recording of the moments of affectionate glances and brief embraces during the struggle, let people remember this history.
Southern Network: Can this fat woman's work of nucleic acid detection be introduced?
Xu Hongfei: Nucleic acid testing is something that everyone has experienced now. The medical staff in the work are very serious and professional, and people all over the country have participated in nucleic acid testing, and "Fat Girl" is no exception, carefully cooperating with nucleic acid testing, she shouts, opens her mouth, and brings a unique "Xu's" humor in a tense atmosphere. In addition, nucleic acid testing is inseparable from two things, one is a mask, the other is a mobile phone, and the "fat girl" is brought.
Recording this moment with a piece of work will be familiar to everyone at a glance, because everyone has done it and experienced it.
This work uses three-dimensional sculpture to express and record the scene of nucleic acid measurement, which is also realistic, but with an exaggerated technique. Perhaps after the epidemic, everyone sees this work in the public space of the city, which can evoke an unusual memory of life and let people remember this anti-epidemic time, including emotions, including this state.
