At 7:00 a.m. Beijing time on April 13, 2022, the famous Kunqu performance artist Hua Wenyi died in Los Angeles at the age of 81.
Hua Wenyi, born in 1941, is a famous actor in Kunqu opera and the first graduate of Shanghai Opera School. She was taught by Zhu Chuanming and other "Chuan" character artists and famous teachers such as Yu Zhenfei and Yan Huizhu, focusing on Boudoir Dan, with exquisite skills and outstanding talents. In the 1960s, Hua Wenyi performed the Kunqu opera "The Legend of the White Snake", known as "Little Mei Lanfang".
Hua Wenyi looks beautiful, has a gorgeous voice, pursues a natural style, and integrates the program into his performance without leaving a trace. In "Wall Head Horse", together with her former "golden partner" Yue Meiti, she reproduced the classic images of art masters Yu Zhenfei and Yan Huizhu.
Since 2006, Hua Wenyi has joined Mr. Bai Xianyong in the new version of the classic Kunqu opera "Jade Hairpin" and served as an artistic director. She also returned to her alma mater, the Shanghai Xiqu School, to teach art to the students of the "Kun Fifth Class".
