It is understood that the Small South China Sea Lake, where the Kuangjiagang site is located, is currently the largest flood lake in Songzi. In 1870, a large flood caused the four mouths of the Yangtze River to burst at the same time, and the small South China Sea area became a lake overnight, and the Kuangjiagang site was separated from the land and isolated into an island. In recent years, in the process of site investigation, the remains of the Neolithic, Eastern Zhou, Han Dynasty and Southern and Northern Dynasties have been found, and neolithic fangji, Eastern Zhou Chu tombs, and southern and northern dynasty brick chamber tombs have been found on the surface.

Liu Hui, captain of the archaeological team at the Kuangjiagang site and professor at the School of History and Culture of Hubei University, introduced that at present, the site has been excavated from the Neolithic, Eastern Zhou, Han Dynasty to the Southern and Northern Dynasties from the stone tools, pottery, porcelain, bronze and so on. What is particularly important is that a large number of 8,000-year-old Chengbeixi cultural relics and relics unearthed in this excavation are the earliest stage of Neolithic cultural relics found in Hubei, which is of great significance for exploring the source of Hubei's 10,000-year-old cultural history.

Under the guidance of Professor Liu Hui, the School of History and Culture has sent a number of senior students to participate in on-site archaeology internships, and Li Jiayi, a major in cultural relics and museology of the class of 2018, is one of them. Li Jiayi introduced that the archaeologists excavated in a 5×5-meter exploration party, using archaeological stratigraphy methods, digging soil, identifying soil color, cleaning up relics, collecting relics, recording coordinates, taking photos, sorting out excavation record tables and writing excavation diaries. "As students, what we have to do is to learn professional knowledge and actively participate in field archaeology and museum practice. The liberal arts profession may not be unpopular, as long as you have a reverence and warmth to participate, you will find fun in it. Li Jiayi said.

It is reported that on the basis of the accumulation of historical traditions, Hubei University has vigorously developed the department of archaeology, actively carried out cultural heritage research and talent training, and docked with the strategic needs of national cultural heritage protection. The school and the Department of Culture and Tourism of Hubei Province jointly established the School of Cultural Heritage, the Jianghan Civilization Archaeology Research Center and the Hubei Provincial Cultural and Cultural Talents Training Center have been listed, and the school has also added a new undergraduate major of "cultural heritage" this year.

"At present, the strength of cultural relics protection is relatively weak in China, and it is a social consensus issue to increase the construction of grass-roots cultural relics protection teams." Meng Huaping, professor of the College of History and Culture of Huda University and executive vice president of the School of Cultural Heritage, introduced that Hubei is a province of cultural relics resources, and the College of Cultural Heritage of Huda University will give full play to the advantages of disciplines and talents to carry out cultural heritage protection talent training and archaeological excavation research work for Hubei, and contribute to the construction of a culturally strong province.
