On August 1, 1937, Tseten Dolma was born into a serf family in Shigatse, Tibet, with three older sisters. Tseten Dolma's parents farmed for the serf owners all year round, and the family was hungry and clothed for many years.

In December 1957, at the age of 20, Tseten Dolma married a husband named Nanga Dorji. He is a Tibetan from Qinghai, 6 years older than Tsetan Dolma, and is handsome.
Nanga Dorjee was originally a soldier in the 18th Army, and after changing careers, he entered the public security department. In order to better build a new China, in 1958, Tseten Dolma and her husband were sent by their units to the Tibetan Public School in Xianyang, Shaanxi Province, for further study.
At that time, Tseten Dolma and her husband could only speak Tibetan, and in Tibetan public schools, they learned Hanyu Pinyin and took cultural classes.

In 1963, Tseten Dolma heard the song "Sing a Mountain Song to the Party" on the radio and especially wanted to sing it. This song is composed by composer Zhu Jian'er based on a poem in "Lei Feng's Diary", and the first song is Ren Guizhen.
At that time, Tseten Dolma sang Tibetan songs and had not yet sung Han Songs. Teacher Wang Pinsu was worried that Caidan Dolma would abandon his style and did not agree.
