This phrase appears in his novel Anna Karenina and is considered Tolstoy's best interpretation of marriage and family.
The novel mainly tells the love-hate entanglement between the noblewoman Anna and her husband and lover, and finally she is disappointed in love and embarks on the road of lying down.

She bore woronsky a child, and in her heart, nothing else mattered except love, except for Vronsky.

When Anna and Vronsky traveled to Europe for three months and returned to Petersburg again, she found that the doors of high society had been closed to her.
The refusal of relatives and friends in the old days to interact with her made her feel humiliated and bitter.
Vronsky also paid the price, giving up his rank, career, and financial support from his mother.
