Last year, there was such a magical notebook, while other notebooks are trying to make a sense of futurism and technology, it combines the notebook with the national style to create the first national tide game book; when other manufacturers are increasing the price limit, it gives an ultra-low price through various channels, which is well-known in the circle of hardcore players. It is the Rainbow's General Star series.
Just recently, the Rainbow Will Star series was updated with the all-new X15 AT 2020 model. IT House has got the i7 version, and in this article, we'll focus on how it performs.
1. Design
The Rainbow Star X15 AT is a 15.6-inch regular-size gamebook with a circumference of 359.5x238x23.9mm, which is closer to the traditional 15.6-inch gamebook. It weighs about 2.05KG, which is not portable, but it is not particularly heavy.
The A side is where the national style of the star is located, and the word "will" is engraved on the frosted surface, and there is a personality of the national tide in the low profile.
The star X15 AT does not support one-handed opening and closing, open the B side, is a 15.6-inch screen from BOE, the recognition rate of this screen is 1920 * 1080, the refresh rate is 144Hz, the color can cover 99% of the sRGB, is a good look and feel of the mainstream level of e-sports screen. In addition to the 15.6 screen, it also has a 17.3-inch version of the large screen optional.
The C side is an RGB keyboard with reasonable keys, arrow keys and keypads. This keyboard supports RGB backlighting, which is cool to look at. Above the keyboard is the power button and performance toggle key, and below the keyboard is a touchpad, medium in size and made of plastic.
The D surface is made of plastic, with a height design and a large area of air intake, and the exposed copper pipe can be seen directly from the hollowed-out bottom cover, which is helpful for heat dissipation.
As a game book. The interface of the star X15 AT is quite rich, and it is enriched with its own characteristics. The whole machine has a total of 1 USB2.0 + USB3.2 (Gen 1) port, 1 USB Type C (USB3.2Gen 2), 1 Thunderbolt 4 port, a TF card reader, a MINI DP interface, a pair of 3.5mm interfaces, DC power interface, HDMI and Gigabit Ethernet port. Among them, the thunderbolt port HDMI and DP interface can be used for video output, so it can even be combined with 4 screens. The random standard power adapter is 180W, which is not a large size, but it is a bit nervous for a computer with this configuration.
Second, hardware analysis
The biggest upgrade to the Rainbow Star X15 AT is the i7-12700H. The biggest highlight of the Core i7-12700H is the new hybrid architecture based on the intel 7 process, 6 performance cores and 8 energy efficiency cores, of which the performance core supports Hyper-Threading Technology, a total of 14 cores and 20 threads, which makes this generation of multi-core performance a leap forward. The 24MB L3 cache and 45W of reference power consumption are consistent with the previous generation.
The GPU is still RTX 3060, but this time the Star X15 AT will give the peak power consumption to 130W full blood. The configuration of the notebook is one thing, but what is more important is whether the heat dissipation and power supply are sufficient, which is related to whether the performance can be fully released. So what heat dissipation system is it pressed with? Let's take it apart and see.
In terms of memory, there are two Samsung 8G DDR4 memory, 3200 frequency, which can be removed and replaced by itself.
The hard drive is AWS SN530 hard drive, which is a very stable mid-range hard drive. It is worth mentioning that the star X15 AT reserves an additional M.2 bay, and this bay also supports the ultra-high speed of PCIe 4.0*4, which is very friendly for users to expand their own capacity.
The battery is relatively small, only 3510mAh, for this kind of game book, it also plays a UPS role.
The network card is Intel's AX211, which supports the latest WiFi6E protocol and is a very new high-performance wireless network card. Although the cost performance is high, the network card has not shrunk, this should be praised.
Third, the roaster runs points
So will the star X15 AT's thermal system withstand the RTX 3060 Laptop GPU and 12th generation H45 Core i7-12700H processor? We first used the AIDA64 for a single-baked FPU, and after 15 minutes, the CPU temperature stabilized at 85°C, at which point the power consumption reached about 65W.
We then used FurMark donuts for a single-baked GPU, and after 15 minutes, the temperature stabilized at 88°C and the power consumption stabilized at a baseline of 115W.
Next, we run both of these software at the same time, simulating maximum pressure and running a 15-minute double roast. After 15 minutes, the CPU is stable at 38W and 80°C, and the GPU is stable at 108W and 88°C, which is relatively conservative in terms of performance release.
In terms of running points, the RTX 3060 can basically release the performance of the benchmark, and the graphics card physical score can reach 8468 points.
In R20, which represents the theoretical performance of the CPU, it scored a single-threaded score of 704 and a multi-threaded score of 6755. Compared with the previous generation of mainstream i7-11800H, both single-core multi-core has a nearly 20% improvement.
In R23, it reached a single-core 1834 points and a multi-core 17361 points, which also has a big improvement, and it seems that the 12th generation Core is really quite powerful.
The hard disk of the Western Digital SN530 is decent in performance, but the performance is stable and the heat is small, and the high-performance hard disk that requires performance can expand the PCIE 4.0 by itself.
Fourth, the game is measured
It seems that in terms of theoretical performance, the i7-12700H + RTX 3060 Laptop is still quite outstanding, and the star X15 AT factory default is a unique direct mode, which can reduce the loss during the transmission process at high frame rates, so there should be a good performance in e-sports games. So let's run some games to test.
First of all, we selected four mainstream esports games from CS:GO, Rainbow Six: Siege, APEX Legend and PUBG for testing. In CS:GO, most scenes can run to around 448 frames, which is a pretty powerful frame count.
Rainbow Six: Siege has its own benchmark, which can still run to 366 frames at the highest quality, and the game experience is excellent.
APEX Legend is a game with much higher configuration requirements, but in the training ground, it can always maintain around 144 frames online, and the actual game experience will not be too bad.
Next, let's test the game with more demanding configurations. In PUBG, we turned on the highest full extreme picture quality, and the frame rate has been floating up and down around 150 frames during the game, and the "eat chicken" experience is quite good.
In the domestic martial arts chicken eating game "Forever Doom", we opened to high-quality + balance file DLSS, which can reach an average of about 117 frames, which is a very good experience.
Next, we tested some AAA masterpieces, starting with the running score regular Tomb Raider: Shadow, which can achieve an average of 113 frames after turning on the highest quality, and it is completely fine to play.
What about the more stressful light chasing game? Let's test Control and Cyberpunk 2077. Due to the relatively high pressure, we still open the balance file DLSS uniformly. In Control, the frame count can reach an average of 100 frames, and playing with light is not a problem.
The last game is Cyberpunk 2077, which recently updated BenchMark, so the results will be more objective. Under the high quality of 1920*1080 resolution, the high light chasing frame rate can be stabilized at around 65 frames, and the game experience is good.
In general, the notebooks currently equipped with RTX 3060 can already run smoothly at 1080P resolution, and it should not be a problem to use DLSS technology for four or five years.
Fifth, creative production
Of course, there are also many consumers who buy games to get stronger performance in creative production work, so let's test benchMark for productivity software. The first is PCMark10, which stands for comprehensive office performance. With a score of 7573, it can easily cope with almost all daily office needs.
In another new test software that represents comprehensive office performance, CrossMark, the Star X15 AT was awarded the 1994, which can fully meet the needs of the office.
In the PugetBenchmark For PR and AE commonly used by creative workers, the AE score is 1184 points, the PR score is 857 points, and they can run smoothly, and there is no problem in cutting videos and doing special effects every day.
Summary: There are surprises at the price-performance ratio
The Star X15 AT game itself is based on a more mature mold, but it still gives the author two surprises: the national style and the price. A large brush "will" on the front can attract many consumers who love the national tide, and the price of i5+3060 version 6999 yuan and i7+3060 version 7299 yuan is undoubtedly the higher price on the market.
If you need to buy a 3060 game book produced by a large factory with the lowest possible budget, then the Rainbow Star X15 AT in the early 7000 yuan will be a very cost-effective choice. If you need a larger screen, it also has a 17.3-inch version of the star X17 AT, which only costs 7599 yuan, and the price is also outstanding.
