Diablo 4 Quarterly Log Update: Shaping visual style in two directions

In the early hours of today (March 30), Blizzard released its first Diablo 4 quarterly update for 2022. This update focuses on the art design in the game, and the production team also released preview videos of environmental art and multiple scenes.

Officials point out that Diablo 4 will have five unique areas and more than 150 dungeons for players to explore. The production team will adopt a style that will be darker and more immersive than the previous series of works.

The art of this work is designed using modern technology and physically oriented light technology. The production team decided to take the two directions of "medieval art style" and "return to darkness" to establish the tone.

The "Medieval Art Style" provides a benchmark for art designers to screen materials, while "Back to Darkness" applies to all content in the game as one. Chris Ryder, director of environmental art, mentions that it takes a delicate balance between the two directions to create a unique visual style.
