Recently appointed game director Joe Shely said Diablo 4 will be "an immersive world where you can wander and enjoy getting lost." Those words are even more powerful when Environmental Art Director Brian Fletcher and Lead External Environmental Artist Matt McDaid add that Sanctuary (The Inside World of the Game) has five explorable areas and over 150 dungeons.

The dungeons players encounter are filled with dynamic weather, lighting effects, and item items, so each entry has a unique and personalized feel. In terms of visual storytelling and direction, the team focuses on two areas, "The Old Masters" and "Back to Darkness."

"We created the environment for Diablo 4 through darker and more grounded interpretations than earlier works. The return to the Dark Style is one that runs through all aspects from dungeons to lighting, embodying the dangerous sanctuary and the dark medieval Gothic world. ”

"A lot has been said about the grim aesthetic that Diablo IV brings, but what you see and play in it is different. There was blood and corpses everywhere, a world without much hope, a world of darkness. After Diablo 3, it's really a stark contrast.

While Diablo 4 is far from us, this developer update and demo is a great show of where the game is headed.
