The construction of the new Sanxingdui Museum is one of the key projects of the province in 2022, and it is also an important part of the construction of the Sanxingdui National Cultural Relics Protection and Utilization Demonstration Zone.
The new museum is located in sanxingdui museum, covering an area of 66 acres, with a construction area of 55,000 square meters, which is 5 times the existing exhibition hall, and is designed and constructed by the Eighth Engineering Bureau of China And the Southwest Design and Research Institute of China Architecture.
With a total investment of 1.433 billion yuan, the new museum takes "stacking three stars, the eye of ancient Shu" as the core design concept, highlights the three characteristics of "coordination", "concealment" and "practicality", and considers the relationship with the heritage park and the museum park as a whole, and is committed to creating an integrated museum community. With the goal of building a "world-class museum", the new museum is committed to becoming a new model for the protection and utilization of national cultural relics.
It is understood that the exhibition of sanxingdui new museum will closely follow the theme of "ancient city ancient country ancient Shu culture". In addition to displaying the cultural relics of the No. 1 and No. 2 sacrifice pits of the Sanxingdui Museum, the cultural relics excavated from the new round of archaeological excavations in the Sanxingdui Sacrifice Area will also be displayed. In addition, the new museum will have the function of a wisdom museum, the collection will break through the limitations of time and space, the content will be richer, and the display methods will be more diverse, so that visitors can experience the splendid ancient Shu civilization in a more in-depth way.

The design plan of the new sanxingdui museum was successfully elected by the plan of the Southwest Design and Research Institute consortium of China Architecture.
What kind of design concept and concept does the new museum plan reflect? What kind of exhibition experience will it bring to the audience in the future? On the 29th, Liu Yi, chief architect of the Southwest Design and Research Institute of China Architecture, and Zhu Yarong, director of the Planning and Construction Department of the Sanxingdui Museum Scenic Area Management Committee, were interviewed by the media.
Liu Yi introduced that the new sanxingdui museum has a total of three units. However, from the design scheme, the façade of the three elements is connected by a wavy curve. This design hides the cultural heritage of the old and new museums.
"Before the design of the new Sanxingdui museum, our designers visited the Sanxingdui Museum many times and were deeply impressed by the sanxingdui cultural relics and the old museum building." Liu Yi introduced that in the eyes of the new generation of designers, the design of the new museum does not mean a comprehensive subversion of the culture of the old museum, and how the architectural design reflects the inheritance and is consistent from the overall style is the goal they very much want to achieve.
The designers found that the spiral façade of the Sanxingdui Museum Bronze Hall has long become the symbol of the Sanxingdui Museum, "We will continue to develop this curve, and from the sanxingdui bronze mask, the ubiquitous bronze eye line on the bronze human head, as the control curve of the shape of the three piles and the internal space." The roof of the new building adopts a sloped cover form, and the building is hidden into the environment, which echoes with the shape of the No. 1 museum; the building forms three overlying piles arranged along the central axis, which also means "stacking three stars". In addition, the plane control lines of the three stacks extend to intersect at a point, allowing the building to generate a unique rhythm of shape. The appearance of the main building of the museum pursues the charm of combining with the landform, historical sites and cultural relics plastic arts, and also reflects the characteristics of the museum's "combination of museum and garden".
Between "explicit" and "hidden", "new" and "old", "point" and "union", the designers found a clever balance and responded to the complex architectural status and historical context of the park with an appropriate posture. Liu Yi believes that this design concept should be the reason why the program can win from global competitors, "on the basis of overall coordination, it is both iconic and avoids mavericks and sensationalism." We hope to build the Sanxingdui Heritage Park into a new responsibility for the image of Sichuan Cultural Tourism of 'Tianfu SanjiuDa, Comfortable Walking Sichuan', a new model for the protection and utilization of national heritage parks, and a new destination for world-class cultural heritage tourism." ”
Exhibition Hall: All are flexible column-free, dividable and closed open spaces
For the audience, the most interesting thing about the new museum is the way in which the shock of Sanxingdui cultural relics will be presented. Liu Yi introduced that the architectural design of the new museum also hides ingenuity.
The new Sanxingdui Museum has three piles, two piles on the east side for exhibition space, and one pile on the west side for the logistics reservoir area.
Entering the "Time and Space Spiral" prologue hall, the spiral staircase surrounds the bronze Da Liren sculpture magnified 6 times, allowing visitors to truly feel the shock of the ancient Shu civilization "sleeping for thousands of years, waking up and shocking the world". As for the visit route, it is also designed to be quite flexible, and visitors can either visit all the exhibition halls continuously through the "one moving line" or "order" individually. According to reports, the new hall has a total of 6 permanent exhibition halls and 1 temporary exhibition hall, with an exhibition area of 18,000 square meters. The structural design adopts steel truss cover to ensure that the exhibition hall is a flexible column-free, dividable and closed open space. On the first floor, theme exhibition halls such as "Ancient City ancient country", "ancient Shu civilization exchange" and "archaeological excavation process" are designed. After visiting the first floor, the audience can also enter the "amphitheater" on the second floor through the spiral staircase to watch the sitcom, and then visit the exhibition hall of "Art, Mythology and Sacrifice", the exhibition hall of "Cultural Relics and Heavy Objects", and the exhibition hall of "New Archaeological Achievements".
The sanxingdui new building also contains an underground floor. After the audience enters the negative first floor through the spiral staircase, a children's playground and an academic lecture hall are designed. In the future, children can fall in love with archaeology and cultural relics through games here, and the audience can also listen to the academic reports of archaeologists here.
In the new museum, what wonderful exhibitions can the audience see? Zhu Yarong introduced that the basic display of the new museum will strengthen and closely follow the archeological culture characterization of "ancient shu culture in the ancient city", consolidate the existing research results, enrich the latest archaeological information, in addition to displaying the cultural relics of the First and Second Sacrifice Pits of the Sanxingdui Museum, it will also systematically display the cultural relics excavated in the new round of major archaeological excavations in the Sanxingdui Sacrifice Area.
At present, the museum has started the planning of the basic display of the new museum, showing the beauty of Sanxingdui cultural relics technology and art, telling the ancient Shu history and culture behind the cultural relics, and explaining the value and position of the ancient Shu civilization in the process of the formation and development of Chinese and world civilizations. Not only that, after completion, the new museum will also have the function of a smart museum, which allows the new museum to break through the time and space restrictions of the collection exhibition, enrich the exhibition method of the collection, expand the exhibition content, enhance the interaction with tourists, and create a sanxingdui museum intelligent ecosystem chain that integrates cultural relics, relics and smart cities, so that visitors can more deeply experience the splendid civilization created by the ancient Shu kingdom.
Public space: "The Eye of Ancient Shu" is the finishing touch
In the design plan of sanxingdui new museum, the concept of "eye of ancient Shu" is omnipresent. Liu Yi said, "In our opinion, the most characteristic cultural relics of Sanxingdui are the eyes in addition to the bronze mask. They are the embodiment of the ancient Shu people's eye worship, and also the ancient Shu people's desire to explore the unknown through the eyes. They travel through time and space, as if in silent dialogue with the audience. Similarly, museums are 'seeing' architectural art, so we want to link the two together. ”
In the new museum, the solid and thick façade reveals the "Eye of Ancient Shu" and looks out towards the ruins area. These huge eyes cleverly accommodate the two node spaces of "Time and Space Spiral Sequence Hall" and "Circular Flow Ancient and Modern Theater", introducing natural light to the public space, and symbolizing the window of the Sanxingdui culture displayed to the outside world, which is a metaphor for the ancient Shu civilization to gaze at the world through ancient and modern times.
In the "Time and Space Spiral Sequence Hall", the circular bronze staircase spirals downward around the bronze Grand Standing Man, echoing with the atrium of the Second Hall spiraling upward around the bronze sacred tree, exploring the source of ancient Shu downwards, and unfolding the future journey upwards, "responding to heaven and earth", forming a dialogue and inheritance between new and old buildings. At the "Circular Stream Ancient and Modern Theater", visitors can watch a sitcom from the ancestors of ancient Shu.
The façade of the new sanxingdui museum adopts a glass curtain wall and a bronze sunshade, and the pile part adopts dry-hung beige stone slabs, which contrasts between virtual and real, forming the iconic "Eye of Ancient Shu" of Sanxingdui. "We hope that the audience at Sanxingdui can not only look at history through the eyes of ancient Shu, but also stop and enjoy the scenery of the old museum and ruins through the 'eyes'."
Liu Yi said that in the construction of the new sanxingdui museum, the landscape design is also reused to integrate the building, dissolve the axis, and re-integrate the park into a complete ecological park. "Three stars in the pile, the eye of ancient Shu", the construction of the new sanxingdui museum will reshape the spatial pattern and tour experience of the park, leave a scale and imprint in the long river of time, and shape a new landmark of sanxingdui culture.
