Offerings to the Virgin and Child
Hello everyone! Today, I would like to introduce the group sculpture of "The Offering and the Virgin and Child" created by the French Dijon sculptor Klaus Slutter, which is located on the main entrance of the Galduzian monastery.
It is generally believed that the sculptural style of the 15th century was mostly influenced by the French Dijon sculptor Klaus Slutter.
In 1389 Slutter became the presiding officer of the carving work of the Gardusian monastery until his death.
Art history calls the style of sculpture he created during this period a Burgundian style.
Although he died in the early 15th century, his nephews and disciples continued his style into the 15th century, influencing German and Flanders, and even more distant Spanish sculptors.
The human dignity and tragedy expressed in his works far exceeded the Gothic style that swept through Europe at that time, and is considered to be the last masterpiece of the Middle Ages.
