Hitachi Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Hitachi) and Hitachi Anstimo Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Hitachi Antamo Co., Ltd.) won the "Grand Hanoi Memorial Award" for "Small high-power inverter with direct water-cooled double-sided cooling power module developed for electric vehicles (hereinafter referred to as EVs)/plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHVs)" at the "68th (2021) Ohanoi Award" sponsored by the Ōkawa Memorial Association. He was honored at an award ceremony held at the Japan Industrial Club Hall on March 22.

The Great Hanoi Prize is an authoritative award that recognizes significant achievements in the research and implementation of production engineering, production technology, and production systems that have made great contributions to academic progress and industrial development. The "Grand Hanoi Memorial Award" ranks highest among them.

The development of a compact, high-power inverter with a direct water-cooled double-sided cooling power module has contributed to the realization of carbon neutrality and the acceleration of the adoption of EV/PHV, and it is precisely for this outstanding performance that it has received this award.

Hitachi and Hitachi Astimo will also promote the adoption of EVs by providing this inverter in the future, and will also contribute to the realization of carbon neutrality by developing space-saving and lightweight areas such as data centers and aircraft.

Developed technology

With regard to the popularity of EVs, it is necessary to reduce charging concerns and improve cruising range and driving performance. To achieve this, a small, high-power, high-voltage drive system with excellent cooling performance and helping to reduce charging time is required. That's why Hitachi and Hitachi Astimo have developed small, high-power inverters using direct, water-cooled, double-sided cooling power modules as key components. Based on the extensive technologies accumulated by the Hitachi Group over the years, the R&D results are based on the unique concept of direct water-cooled double-sided cooling, as well as the use of various technologies such as long-term waterproofness and high pressure resistance, and have been highly praised by customers.

effect

The direct water-cooled double-sided cooling technology developed not only has excellent heat dissipation performance, but also achieves high-speed switching action and high reliability. Inverters equipped with this technology began to be put into practical use in 2014, and in 2019 they began mass production as 800V counterparts for EVs, and have been installed on more than 300,000 EV and PHVs, promoting the popularity of advanced electrified and environmentally friendly vehicles.
