According to Japan's Kyodo News Agency on December 23, Hitachi's auto parts dealer Hitachi Astimo exposed inspection violations, involving brake parts in 57,000 cases, as well as about 10 million suspension parts. The violation lasted about 20 years from 2000 to October this year. Hitachi Astimo apologized for the incident on the 22nd.

According to public information, Hitachi Astemo Co., Ltd. is engaged in the development, manufacture, and sales of automotive parts, transportation, and industrial machinery and equipment and systems. Hitachi Astymore was formed by the merger of four auto parts manufacturers under the Hitachi and Honda Group, which Hitachi holds a 66.6% stake.
According to Kyodo News Agency, Hitachi Astimo released a message on the 22nd that the company's factories were involved in violations. Among them, there were 57,000 violations related to brake parts produced at the Yamanashi plant, and about 10 million suspension parts related to the Fukushima plant. The violation lasted about 20 years from around 2000 to October this year.
According to the Comprehensive Asahi Shimbun, the violation related to brake performance was "falsifying data during braking tests"; while the violation of suspension components was the delivery of a product that did not meet the required standards. Hitachi Astymore's chief executive officer (CEO) Brice Koch held a press conference online on the 22nd, saying that he "caused trouble to everyone and apologized for this."
Hitachi Astimo declined to provide further details on the grounds of "contract confidentiality." It also said it was "trying to determine how many cars use these parts," and Toyota, Nissan, Honda and Subaru are said to have accepted the parts.
