Shared health ends TB

24 March 2022 marks the 27th World TB Day, and this year's themes are:

Life first, action for all,

Sharing health and ending TB.

Many people feel that there have been no tuberculosis patients around for a long time, and whether tuberculosis has been eliminated, but in fact, the "2021 Global Tuberculosis Report" released by the World Health Organization points out that tuberculosis still poses a serious threat to global public health, estimating that in 2020, 9.87 million new tuberculosis patients will be born globally, and 1.5 million people will die of tuberculosis (including 214,000 TB/HIV double infection patients); the estimated number of new tuberculosis patients on the mainland is 842,000, second only to India, ranking second in the world.

In 2021, 6717 cases of tuberculosis patients were reported in Beijing, with a reported incidence rate of 30.7/100,000. The tuberculosis epidemic situation in this city is relatively high incidence, the number of reported tuberculosis diseases ranks first in class A and B infectious diseases, and the number of reported deaths ranks in the top 3 of class A and B infectious diseases; the challenges of tuberculosis prevention and control in the elderly in our city are becoming increasingly prominent, and among the patients with tuberculosis reported in 2021, the elderly over 65 years old account for 27.6%, and the elderly population has a high risk of tuberculosis, hidden disease, atypical symptoms, difficult treatment and management, and unsatisfactory treatment. In addition, 38.1% of the registered tuberculosis patients account for 38.1%, which is a difficult point for the standardized management of tuberculosis patients.

What measures will be taken by the city

Reduce the incidence of tuberculosis outbreaks

★ Improve the construction of tuberculosis prevention and control service systems at the municipal and district levels, improve the capacity of tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment services, and achieve full coverage of standardized treatment and management of all types of tuberculosis patients;

★ Strengthen training and technical guidance for medical staff at all levels and in all types of hospitals, and improve the level of diagnosis and discovery of tuberculosis patients;

★ Continue to innovate and carry out health education for the public and key populations to improve awareness and capacity in tuberculosis prevention and control;

★ Disease control agencies, tuberculosis designated medical institutions and community health service institutions coordinate and cooperate to strengthen the treatment and health management services capacity of tuberculosis patients, and improve the success rate of patients;

★ Strengthen the monitoring and management of crowded places such as schools and welfare institutions to prevent the occurrence of clusters of tuberculosis outbreaks.

Origin of World TB Day

Humanity has been plagued by tuberculosis throughout its evolutionary history, until March 24, 1882, when german scientist Robert Koch announced the discovery of "Mycobacterium tuberculosis", and humans did not know that Mycobacterium tuberculosis was the culprit of tuberculosis. The discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis provides an important scientific basis for human prevention and treatment of tuberculosis.

In response to the Global Tuberculosis Emergency, the World Health Organization and the International Federation for Tuberculosis prevention and pulmonary diseases designated 24 March as World Tb Day at the end of 1995 in order to promote the active participation of the whole society in tuberculosis control.

What exactly is tuberculosis?

Tuberculosis is a chronic infectious disease caused by infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (referred to as Tuberculosis bacteria), which is called "tuberculosis" in Chinese medicine. Tuberculosis can occur in any part of the human body except hair and nails, more than 80% of lesions occur in tuberculosis in the lungs, trachea, bronchi and pleura, and the rest are collectively referred to as extrapulmonary tuberculosis.

Coughing up sputum for more than two weeks, or blood in the sputum is the main suspicious symptom of tuberculosis, and these symptoms must be seen in a regular medical institution in time.

Can tuberculosis be cured?

If it is an ordinary tuberculosis patient, as long as you receive a standardized full range of anti-tuberculosis treatment for 6-8 months, most of them can be cured.

If treatment is not standardized, it can lead to treatment failure and even drug-resistant tuberculosis. The course of treatment for drug-resistant tuberculosis takes 18-24 months, the incidence of adverse reactions is high, the cure rate is low and the case fatality rate is high, and the medical cost is nearly 100 times that of ordinary tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment.

How tuberculosis is transmitted

Tuberculosis is mainly transmitted through the respiratory tract, and the bacteria-draining tuberculosis patients spread droplets with tuberculosis bacteria into the air when coughing, sneezing, and talking loudly.

People around them may become infected by inhaling carrier droplets. In densely populated schools, factories, welfare institutions, etc., tuberculosis transmission and cluster disease may result from untimely detection of infectious tuberculosis patients.

Preventing tb starts with these small things

★ Infants and young children are vaccinated with BCG as required to improve the body's specific immunity.

★ Early detection of surrounding tuberculosis patients, close contacts should be screened for tuberculosis as soon as possible, and measures such as living and disinfection in separate rooms should be taken to prevent infection, do a good job of health monitoring, care for tuberculosis patients and urge them to receive the whole process of treatment.

★ Try to participate in activities in poorly ventilated, crowded places as much as possible and stay away from the risk of tuberculosis infection.

★ Tuberculosis patients develop good hygiene habits, open windows for ventilation, do not spit on the ground, cough and sneeze to cover their mouths and noses, minimize going out, wear masks when going out, and reduce the risk of tuberculosis transmission.

★ Regular life, balanced psychology, reasonable diet, moderate exercise, improve the body's immunity.

TB is mainly transmitted through the respiratory tract and, like COVID-19, it has a serious impact on people's healthy lives. We must attach great importance to maintaining good hygiene habits in life and actively preventing infections.

shared health,

End tb!
