Yesterday, two more Russian A-50/A-100 AWACS aircraft arrived at Baranavich Air Base, about 420 kilometers from Kiev.
The A-50 early warning aircraft is designed on the basis of the Il-76 heavy transport aircraft, equipped with a radar system capable of detecting 150 targets at a distance of 600 kilometers, detecting cruise missiles and ballistic missiles, guiding large groups of fighters, and being able to carry out air traffic command.
In general, the A-50 long-range radar early warning aircraft participates in the air patrol operations of Russian strategic aviation bombers in remote parts of the world.
The A-100 AWACS is a Russian long-range radar detection and control aircraft based on the Il-76MD-90A, powered by PS-90A-76 engines. As an aerial command post, the aircraft can detect up to 300 air, sea and ground targets as well as unmanned aerial vehicles.
