Polls will only be conducted in WhatsApp groups and will use end-to-end encryption, which means that only people in the group can see the votes and results.

Polling features are already available in rival messaging apps Telegram, and Telegram has thousands of communities thanks to similar features dedicated to making groups more dynamic. Telegram introduced group voting in 2018. However, it is still unknown when the vote in WhatsApp will go live.

In addition, WhatsApp is testing a dedicated "Community" tag to make it easier for users to track groups and communities. The Community tab is expected to replace the existing Camera tab.

WhatsApp has worked hard over the past few years to improve the group chat experience and keep up with competing platforms, introducing group descriptions, one-way messaging options, and protection for users who have been repeatedly added to groups that have left the group.
